Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacteria that usually causes disease in the lung.
In the past, tuberculosis was called consumption, because it seemed to consume people from within, with a bloody cough, fever, pallor, and long relentless wasting.
Many people become symptom-free carriers of the TB bacteria. Although common and deadly in the third world, tuberculosis was almost non-existent in the developed world, but has been making a recent resurgence. Certain drug-resistant strains are emerging and people with immune suppression such as AIDS or poor health are becoming carriers.
The bacteria that cause tuberculosis are literally tough as nails. With unique multilayered cell walls, the microbes resist easy treatment.
Current drug regimens typically last up to six months and require a mix of as many as six different drugs. Because the drugs cause unpleasant side effects, and because patients often feel better after a month or two, many people do not complete treatments, a phenomenon contributing to a worldwide epidemic of multidrug-resistant TB. Adding to the problem, in less developed countries where TB is most common, health care is spotty and drug supplies are frequently inadequate.

I answered another question about acne this evening and I'll just give you the same answer I gave earlier: Usually, topical methods are ineffective and can sometimes make acne worse because they irritate the skin. It really just depends on climate and how your skin functions, it's different for everybody. Really, the most effective remedy for acne is a healthy diet. It's best to stay away from foods like dairy, sugar, simple carbohydrates, fried foods, and high amounts of meat. The foods that can really help the skin clear up and heal are omega-3s (such as in fish and walnuts), vitamin K (i.e. kale, spinach), lycopene (i.e. tomatoes, red bell peppers), vitamin A (i.e. carrots, apricots), and antioxidants (i.e. matcha green tea). You could also read "The Clear Skin Diet" by Alan C. Logan and Valori Treloar to learn more about it (I don't make money off of the book sales, by the way. But many people have found the book useful.) Usually the foods we eat (whether good or bad) show up on our skin 5-10 days after consumption. And eating a healthy diet can help prevent other health problems ranging from arthritis to scurvy to heart disease. I know this from both medical and personal experience. I have traveled to other parts of the world where people in developing countries all had clear skin (not a single person suffered from acne). They certainly did not have the access or money for dermatologists or Accutane, but they had a diet that was quite different from the Western diet that can sometimes cause acne. Best of luck!
