Why can't you just trust God at his word and believe he loves you and he is looking out for your best interest?

As an atheist, yes, sometimes it does suck to question everything. But if it was one thing that my earlier life as a religious follower taught me is that it is better to live in truth than to willingly live a lie. The only way to verify truth is by questioning everything.... So I end up back at square one anyway.
If that made no sense to you, then his is because there is no sense behind religious obedience.

Because the Bible supposedly written about him shows him to be a vile, evil, monstrous, and sadistic being who wouldn't know the true meaning of love if it bit him on the butt.

aren't you ever worried that you might be totally wrong? What if you die and find out that the jews are right, the messiah still hasn't come and you wasted your life worshiping jesus as a false god?

i would rather ask questions and get the truth than believe in my imagination. i suppose you would be content thinking the world was flat because the church said so.
