I think 15 of 80 million would be a really conservative estimate. I would expect nearer 50% (40 million) would fight. For all the differences we have as a country we do tend to rally together well in times of crisis. Remember 9/11? This country was, for the most part, all on the same page in the wake of the tragedy. The American Spirit is still strong. Unfortunately it takes real upheavals to bring it to the surface. Myself and my entire family would be joining the fight.

Man, that is one dumb question. You've been watching too many "Red Dawn" type movies.
Your question annoys me, because I live in Taiwan where we live under constant threat of Chinese invasion every day. China has missiles pointed us, supersonic bomber bases a few hundred km away, and far more personnel and hardware than what is required to defend their nation from attack.
Oh yes. You can bet that the Peoples Liberation Army is trained in urban warfare. They have no regard for the number of casualties they sustain in order to achieve an objective--just ask any GI's or Marines who were in Korea against them. They also have no regard for the casualties they inflict. If some civilian sniper on the roof of an apartment took down half a dozen PLA soldiers in a patrol, they would level the building and butcher everyone in it.
In other words, do not imagine that the PLA would be the pushover that many answerers seem to think.
Do not imagine, you guys, that the nuclear option will save America. China would nuke LA in a finger-snap, knowing full well that the destruction Shanghai would immediately follow. They have more cities than us, and they would win an A-bomb tit-for-tat. They have more people, more everything.
Without detracting in any way shape or form from the courage and dedication of America's military, it was neither courage nor determination that enabled the USA to prevail against Japan in WW II. The US could build ships and aircraft and tanks, and fuel them up, a lot faster than Japan could. It was resupply capability and industrial output that won the war--not the indiividual heroics of which the asker seems so fond.
If you really want to defend your nation from surrender to China, it might already be too late but you can try. Your government and mine (I'm Canadian) has already sold us out to them. You don't want to know how much US currency is in Chinese hands--and how much debt is owed to them through international banks. They are half an inch from being able to choke the US to death just by calling paper--and Canadian and American business people are too greedy to care and our governments are too stupid.
Enjoy the next BS bang-bang-shootemup-God-bless-America nonsense movie you rent from the video store.
Go ahead. Give me more thumbs-down that you'd give a pudgy gladiator--even report me--but consider the possibility that I am right.

There might be quite a few who will be stupid enough to think that because they have a weapon, the will, maybe even some martial arts training they can mount an offense. They are wrong. They will be cannon fodder. They will be dead before they get off a handful of shots. You're talking about taking on a trained Army that will have obliterated our trained Army and Navy and Air Force... or they wouldn't be here in our streets.
More than likely the majority will whine that their government... remember the one they bashed way back when in Vietnam... and a few years later in Iraq? They'll just complain... roll over... and complain.
There will be a few... most of them older than the hills... all of them retired... but who had the training. Some of these will perhaps be able to mount an effective offense... effective in that it will do some damage... but because of their low numbers, not effective in turning the situation around.
Those complainers... those with delusions of grandeur, or of heroism... should have joined the military and have gotten trained. Had they done so, there might have been sufficient military to turn the enemy back before he got to our streets... and there might be enough trained old codgers to do some serious damage to an enemy who might have made it.

Here we go again with the "IF" obviously you have watched "Red Dawn" a few times and think you have all the answers.
I don't rate the chances of a bunch of civilians running around playing partisans, with no command system and supply lines.Probably the first thing the Chinese will do is produce a list of known weapons owners you will be required to hand in the weapon or members of your family will be taken hostage and shot if you fail to do so.
American civilians would be forced to travel on Chinese military vehicles as protection against attack.
And it all depends on how many of your fellow Patriots go over to the invader for food, water, gas and money, whistle-blowing / informers would be rampant in the U.S.A.

i ain't fighting nobody ever again. i am with that "native american" chief joseph. he said that.
so long as they let us have blended 8-year-old scotch and tuna casserole, they can patrol until the cows come home. i will sit in my lazy boy, pour a shot of johnny walker black and watch kobe and shaq doing the dunk or brady hitting moss in the end zone. if that's all there is, well break out the booze.

How many Americans would tolerate the infiltration of foreign fighters into this country who intend to set up their own government once we get rid of the Chinese? You are not making an apples to apples insinuation. When we ran the English out of the United States, would it have also been appropriate to kill the French who came here to assist?
Prevaricative questions such as this one attempt to make comparisons that are not appropriate to the situation. Once we kicked Saddam from power, our continued presence in Iraq was requested by the elected Iraqi government. A substantial number of the attacks against American soldiers in Iraq are being carried out by a minority who intend to regain a tyrannical hold over the majority, assisted by foreign infiltrators who have their own agenda of setting up another Taliban style government and use the countries oil wealth to spread terror and destruction throughout the world.
I don't like the war in Iraq, but I like the alternative to us pulling out immediately even less.

Of course Americans would fight back. It would never be a stable situation for them, unless they were stationed in San Francisco. If they were in New York, they'd be given drivers licenses.

I would say about 8 or 9. The rest would be to busy watching Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, or that show about fat people losing weight.

There are a lot of guns in America, and not nearly all of them are registered. So, I'd say, quite a few. Maybe not 15 million, as most people just aren't that anxious to kill other people, but enough that it would be a difficult populace to subdue.

If the Chinese army landed on the west coast, by the time they reached the Mississippi river they'd all be Americans.
