water in between helps sometimes. but it's mainly just filling up your stomach so that you feel full faster, and thus can't drink as fast/much.
eating also really helps. If you snack at the same time, it really reduces how much/fast you drink.
MIXING different types of alcohol surely doesnt help either. I would stick to either liquor or all beer, or all wine.
Main thing is, enjoy your drink! and pace your drinks!
Good luck & have fun :)

There is only ONE thing that reduces the effects of alcohol and that is the PASSAGE OF TIME.
NOTHING else will do it. No food, no coffee, no water. Coffee won't sober you up, it'll just make you a more wide awake drunk.
By the way, how you 'feel' and how drunk you ARE have nothing to do with one another. How drunk you are is determined by blood alcohol level. You might feel perfectly OK and be legally intoxicated.
If you plan on drinking five beers and want to stay sober, space them an hour apart or more.

My trick is to have some time between the beers...usualy I drink around 8-10 at a party and can still walk lol
Drinking water is after your done drinking so you won't have a hang-over the next day..
Eat before and after your done drinking....there's a reason why denny's is a drunks favorite place,
Just don't try to drink more then you can handle, I made that mistake and ended up in my front yard

I was watching the news about 2 days ago and the reporter said that a new trend of mixing energy drinks with beer or other alcohols will delay the effect but I suggest if you do this to be very careful because they also said that some people while doing this drank so much that when they did feel the effects they became comatose. Yes eating and pacing yourself are very good ideas. Just if you try the energy drink mixer PLEASE be careful.

Eat before you drink. Definitely. A big starchy meal.
Try drinking slowly...don't guzzle down all the beer at once. The more you drink in a shorter period of time, the worse the effects. Also...there is some form of medicine (over the counter) that you can take to reduce the effect of HANGOVERS, but not the overall feeling of being drunk
Water just flushes out your system, it numbs the effect. It makes you have to pee more....which dilutes the alcohol level.
Try drinking less, or not drinking at all. You don't need alcohol to have fun at a party! ^.^

Average size guy metabolizes 1oz. of alcohol per hour. A 12oz beer has about 1 oz of alch. So theoreticly, 1 per hour keeps you par.
Drop 1 every 45 min and "get loose", 1 every 30 and ride the buzz.
Eat bread before the party, something heavy but spongy like Italian. Drink 1 glass of milk or 1 dose of pepto bismal.
Most importantly, be cool. No one likes a drunk.

I was at a social party once. I had like 5 glasses of wine, 4 shots of vodka (of each shot I put in larger glass and watered it down), and 2 shots of gin. Didn't get drunk until my last shot of gin and then I was done drinking because I didn't want to get drunk. But how did I do it? It was a loooooooong party and I had 1 drink every 45 minutes or so. There was A LOT of delicious food there so I ate like it was with Jesus at the Last Supper lol.

Go to mcdonalds and get something on the value menu, fatty foods soak up the alcohol in your stomach, also other liquids like water speed up alcohols effect, pop especialy, your body can get rid of about 1 beer an hour on avg so just go off of that for ideas of how much to drink in what time

Have something starchy (like bread/pasta/rice etc) before you start drinking. I usually, after about 3 beers, drink a soft drink (lime and soda is the best stuff, loads of ice). No need to pile it in, just take it easy, and when you do get (inevitably) get drunk, drink a soft drink in between each alcoholic drink.

Don't drink so fast. Take your time and just sip on it and be social with the people around you
Also drinking on a full stomach allows the food to absorb some of the alcohol.
