Im going to New York City in the next few weeks. I think i'll be staying in Newark (dunno how close that is to the downtown core or manhattan). Any recommendations on good places to eat that are relatively affordable?

Haven't been to the city for a long time but if you are looking for beef Gallaghers is the best. I would suggest you ask some one from Newark who is familiar with the city for recommendations. I was usually there on business and our client treated us royally. You or I wouldn't want to pick up the tab.Your source can give you any number or reasonable and excellent restaurants. There is no shortage of those in NY.

Since you're staying in Newark, go to some of the authentic Portugese restaurants in the Ironbound section.

There are ethnic restaurants galore in Manhatten, and if you are looking for something very early in the morning there is a place just across the street from the Gold's Gym on 54th that has a buffet, muffins and fresh bakey, juice and the works. Have a great time!
