It was a really hot day mid-summer in Queensland Australia. I was making last minute finishing touches to the wedding cake I'd spent many hours preparing, baking and icing with ornate frangipani flowers to suit the wedding theme. I was also a bridesmaid wearing a silken apricot-coloured gown. Everything was just perfect.

Until....I attempted to carry the cake to the car for transport to the reception. Unaccustomed to wearing stilletoes, I slipped in the kitchen, my bridesmaid dress got caught in an old-fashioned metal fan that was sitting on the floor and was totally shredded and marked with grease from the fan; and the cake broke up into messy chunks which I quickly and desperately put back together. I figured I did a pretty good job of masking the damage.

Before cutting the cake, the newly married couple explained my shredded gown and there were jokes all round; then they went to cut the cake which they thanked me for, claiming that it would make up for wardrobe misfunction.

But when they cut it, the whole cake fell apart and the entire room turned to look at me; hundreds of disbelieving eyes and open mouths aghast with horror.

Everyone's eyes then turned to the bride to see her reaction. I waited and waited, my heart pacing, expecting her to explode into tears. Instead she clapped her hands and said, "This is my best friend. You have to love her."

My worst kitchen disaster happened even before i started to cook anything. I was abt to make an omelette. I started the pan with a little of oil. I was frying the egg while the toaster was toasting the bread, the spring in the toaster was stuck (i did not realize) and the bread did not pop up. Instead there was smoke and a burnt smell, i immediately switched off the toaster and used a knife to spring up the toaster to remove the burnt bread. When throwing away the bread, the pan started sizzling badly, i rushed to the pan and found the egg burnt as well.

This is a perfect time of year for that question - at least for me! Years ago, I was making my first stuffed turkey for guy that I liked. I had so much stuffing, that I really PACKED it into that bird! Well, we were watching tv as the Turkey cooked, and I started hearing these strange thumping noises, but it seemed like every time I went into the kitchen, they stopped. (just my luck, I guess) Finally, It smelled like something was burning, so I went in, opened up the oven, and ALL OVER IT, there were little piles of stuffing, from where it had expanded and popped out of the turkey! I hurried and tried cleaning it best I could, so I never did tell my guy about it....but to this day, while I am cooking my gourmet turkey and sides, I get everyone laughing about my very first turkey attempt.

I was making an enormous batch of chicken soup in the pressure cooker one day. I was upstairs and heard an earth-shattering explosion!

The lid mustn't have been on properly and when the pressure built up, the whole thing exploded and the lid smashed a hole into the ceiling! Then for an entire 2 days I had to clean greasy chicken soup from every crevice in the kitchen and living room, not to mention fix the ceiling!

Needless to say, my cat was very excited at having her meals all over the floor and walls!

So, let this be as a lesson to you all - when using a pressure cooker, make sure the lid is on correctly!

I wanted to make my family a lovely home made roast pumpkin soup for dinner, so i started by roasting the pumpkin. sounds easy. well the oven dish had a crack and as a result the dish started to drip onto the base of the oven (its electric) which caused it to smoke, a lot. my husband had to save the day as the en-tier kitchen filled with smoke. lets just say when i finally took a look at the so called "roast pumpkin" we all decided to eat Chinese for dinner. the best part of the day was the smile on the kids and my husbands face as i ran out the back door yelling kitchen is so full of smoke i cant see in there any more!

I've had a couple. I once set my kitchen on fire by leaving hot oil on the hot plate and forgetting about it. Had to call the fire brigade. All the neighbours were out on the street watching - none of them offered any assistance of course. Nosey parkers!

I also made some home made tomato sauce once. I had no idea you are supposed to put either sugar or vinegar in it. I put it in a bottle with a rubber stopper and when I opened the bottle it had fermented and the sauce shot out of the bottle and hit the ceiling. It was an awful mess.

I was 10. Me, my mom, and siblings was staying with my mom man. I was at home with my little brother and decided to cook french fries. I was also watching tv and for some reason put a lid on top of the hot frying pan filled with hot oil. When I lifted the lid flames went everywhere. My little brother ran to a neighbors house to get help. The house didn't burn down, but the smoke was so heavy the inside of the house had to be repainted.

I know you all have heard of scrambled egg. But you guys have got to try scrambled kitchen.

I made such a mess making breakfast for my self when I burnt my self.

My reflexes made throw the pan in the air and the kitchen was all covered with un cooked egg.

It ran down everything, from the oven to the ceiling and the fan.

Mum cracked it at me.

Ok I have always wanted to make a beautiful homemade apple pie. The ones you see in the magazines where the pie crust has those crust leaves all around the middle. I had a great apple pie recipe, but I wanted to make the pie crusts homemade instead of buying them. I made the crusts, filled the pie pan heaping full of my apple filling, topped with second crust, made THE most beautiful leaves to place on top, and into the oven it went. Out of the oven, it was beautiful, and I couldn't wait for my parents, who were coming for dinner to see this pie. I even took a picture of this perfect pie. Ok, so time to cut the pie after dinner. I stuck the knife in, and cut, thinking, something isn't right. Cut the whole piece, lifted out the piece, and there was at least 2" if not more of air space between my pie filling and the top crust. I was so disappointed! My dad got a good chuckle as we all did. Mom told me I had worked way too much flour into my dough, and she was right, I did. The pie tasted great, so we ate it anyway. We all had our laugh, and after that, I ended up buying my pie crusts from the grocery, but at least I still have that pic of a beautiful apple pie. If only I had known what it was going to look like underneath. lol
