It's going to be very difficult since this is not through a registered organization. So you are going to have trouble proving to potential donors that this is a legitimate cause. You are going to have to at least have a newspaper article, a church bulletin notice, and the name of a church pastor or city official that will serve as a reference for these victims.

Also, you need to call your city or country attorney to make sure you can have this silent auction. It may be illegal if not officially registered and officially affiliated.

Donations -- the people involved in this auction should contact businesses with which they are personally familiar to make a personal appeal for such.

Get "registered" with the IRS as a 501c3 (in the U.S.) or equivalent. Nobody that's serious about donating will talk to you if you don't.

Donors don't get the tax write-off, promoters won't risk the financial support, etc. Quite honestly, without IRS recognition as a non-profit, you could very easily be seen as one of the many, many scams currently existing .

Another possibility is to try selling your mission to another de-facto non-profit and get their blanket support.

When we did silent autions at work we made flyers, someone can go around to local businesses and try them, put up flyers in high traffic areas, like malls and walmats, that kinda thing. Good luck!!!
