I have been able to discern when God is speaking to me for quite some time. This has been of great help to me in every aspect of my life. I wonder why other people who ask God to speak to them have a difficult time figuring out what God is saying. They often say that they are left with a few choices and are afraid to make the "wrong" one. I tell them that God isn't in the business of tricking people and that the choice that resonates most deeply within is quite possibly the choice that God would know would be best for the person. I also tell them that God can also give us several possible choices to choose from. There may be no "right or wrong" answer. I have only met a few people who absolutely knew when God was directing them. Why is this?

one possibility is your closeness to God if you have spent the time to know Him intimately and another only knows Him in passing they would have a harder time understanding. another would be that they are fully aware of what God is saying but do not like what they "hear" so to procrastinate they convince themselves they don't know what to do. There are other possibilities I sure but these are what come to mind

I think that one has to be careful of what answer "resonates" the best. For many, that may not look too deeply at their options, the one that resonates best may simply be the easiest or least painful answer. Perhaps this is why some people don't want to make the wrong choice. They don't want to choose the easiest answer, but it may actually be the correct one! You're right that God isn't trying to trick us, but He is certainly trying to make us grow, to stretch us, to make us more than we are. God wants us to be obedient. When the answer is definite then it's an issue of obedience. God wants us to grow. When any of the answers are possibly good, then pick the one in which your most certain to grow. But if you don't, that's OK. God is patient and won't stop "pestering" us to grow.

Melissa,
I would suggest this is because you are deluding yourself. All to often people believe they are talking to God or a deceased relative or Elvis only to be living in a state of denial and delusion.

It’s usually quite harmless, just like having an imaginary friend as a child. The image of God speaking to you is probably the cognitive reasoning going on in your mind , your consciousness. For some reason these thoughts express themselves as God chatting to you – maybe because you have the need to appeal to a higher authority than yourself.

Take care and God Bless

I believe that it is because you are completely in tune with God and what He wants in your life. I think it is awesome that you have such a close relationship with Him. I know when God is speaking to me, and admittedly, I don't always listen. A person just has to be open to what God is wanting. God bless.

sorry, but most people who hear "God" in their head are indeed utterly and completely convinced it's "God" that they're hearing

also, you're picking the answer *you* want and calling it "God". the other people you reference, who don't think they're hearing "God", are a bit more honest
