I hate windows vista, it starts up slow, and is very buggy It came preinstalled and I would prefer XP. I HP Pavillion dv6000. Will I have hardware or other problems if I install XP?

Vista is slow because it is so darn huge. You have to have at least 1G RAM and nothing else running - this includes wallpaper and screensavers.

However, if it came bundled with your laptop and you delete it in order to install XP, you will lose Vista - and if you don't have a new, valid XP CD, you will not be able to install it.

When you install and activate XP, Microsoft takes the product key, mixes it with information about the computer (hard drive, etc.), and makes up an "installation ID" for that computer. If you try to install on another computer, it will either not install, or you will be asked to buy a license.

You may find Vista easier to live with if you set it to classic view and keep your RAM clear.

It should work fine if you install a complete XP OS onto it.

Your Vista is probably slow because of the extra preloaded software that came with it. It's probably trying to boot up a bunch of extra programs. I'd recommend working with it before you decide to completely dump Vista.

Goodluck

no, unlike windows vista, windows XP is compatible with basically any hardware and software you can find, and has had most of the bugs worked out of it. I would wait a couple more years on Vista.
