Generally it is 16 yrs of age if you can financially support yourself.

You can get Youth Allowance from Centrelink once you are 16 –
There is no written law that states the exact age that you have to be. The principle generally is that you need to be responsible and able to look after yourself. Are you at school and coping OK? Do you have enough money? Is the place where you are staying safe for you? If you can show all this, you are more likely to be able to stay living away from home.

You will not be able to get a rental agreement in place though until you are 18, (without parent permission) so you would have to live in shared accommodation or something similar.

However go to http://www.thesource.gov.au/find/life/housing.asp and see your rights about moving out of home and help offered to you.

The source is a great website to bookmark - heaps of facts for 12 - 25 yr olds. "A gateway to youth information, programmes, services, resources and entertainment for young people"

Information on leaving home, http://www.youthinformation.com/Templates/List.asp?NodeID=89801 A great site to bookmark as it's information toolkit for young people . . .

Also please check out http://www.kidshelp.com.au and/or http://www.reachout.com.au - everything you talk to them is confidential, but they give GREAT advice and are there to HELP YOU.

Good Luck

I think you can leave home at 16 in Australia but you can't own a property or rent under your name unless you're emancipated so it'd be very difficult to leave home at 16.
