I prefer small breed dogs and miss the one I had for eighteen years. I now have a large dog that was given to me, a pitbull. He makes me feel safe living alone and he is by far more intelligent and obedient than the Pekanese was, but he is more work and expense. The little one I could always find family to care for her or take her with me when I travel for my job where as I pay for kenneling with the large on because so many people are afraid of him and just that he is more noticiable. Also he pulled down posts he was tied to and is able to use his paw to push his collar over his head so I had to install a $3000.00 industrial fence to contain him and to let him run in.

I prefer the larger breed dogs. I think they fit me better because I am a very active person and I want my dog to do the things with me on their own without carrying them. Smaller dogs do not go the distance on a long walk or run, they do not do well hiking in the mountains. But also the larger dogs offer protection, there is more to snuggle with on a cold night and there is more dog to love.
I also prefer the larger dogs temperments over the small dogs. The larger dogs seem more stable and better balanced the little ones seem overly hyper and crazy. I will admit many times the owners of small breeds are at fault for crazy little dogs, often using the excuse they are small what harm can they do, but then they end up with some crazy little maniac. Larger breeds seem more obedient and have a higher degree of trainability.
Larger breeds are more costly but I think they are well worth it. I have had both but I would never have a small dog without having a larger one as well.

I like all dogs, they all make me smile. But I prefer medium/large breed dogs. I just really like them. I like playing with them, I think they are the perfect size to cuddle with, and I have an easier time training them. The American Pit Bull Terrier is my favorite breed, and I think they are the perfect size.

I like some small dogs, but they are not my favorite. I have cats that work well as lap warmers, I don't need a small dog. But I do love Shih-Tzus, pugs, and Boston Terriers.

I love Giant breed dogs, but I don't think I would ever own one. They don't live as long, and I think that would break my heart. Plus everything for a Giant Breed dog costs a lot more, like food, vet bills, toys, beds, etc. I don't think I could afford a Giant Breed. But I love to play with them.

Thats a loaded question.

They all have their good and bad points. I have had beagles and min pins, my good friend has chi's.

I have worked in the same office with pits, I currently own 5 labs (wouldn't trade them for the world), my Aunt has had OE Mastiffs for years, she's had Saints.

I don't know what your asking the question for, but each breed is right for different people.

It all depends on your lifestyle as to what breed and size of dog or mutt suits you best.

I have always loved large breeds, but my first dog was a beagle when I was younger and then we got a mi pin because my husband and I lived in an apartment.

We now live in a house and have labs which fit our outdoors active lifestyle fine :) These dogs need PLENTY of excercise.

Large/Giant Breeds for me.

There is definitally a lot of pros and cons.

Pros of a big dog: Big dogs are more outgoing, active, calmer, not as fearful may be more loyal.

Cons of a big dog: They cost more money for food, vet bill, ect, need a LOT of exersise, and they don;t live as long.

Pros of a little dog: Fun to put in purse, live longer, less expensive, loyal to owner.

Cons of a little dog: May be more timid, may be afrid of other dogs, usually high strung and more yappy.

It depends on you about the size dog you want. The stuff I said is usually but not always true so I would reaserch the breed you want and figure out one that fits your lifestyle and if you want a mix breed, look at the different purebreed and figure it out. Good luck!

I love and have had dogs of all sizes. We have 4 dogs now, 3 small, 2 Pomeranians, and a Rat Terrier and a German Shepard. I got our first small dog a few years ago and I love small ones. My hubby still likes the big ones best. More manly to him. Whatever!!!
In the past we have had a Collie, a Chow, Samoyed and 2 Old English Sheepdogs.

Small dogs tend to live longer and do not require much exercise, while large dogs are the exact opposite. I love large dogs... yet I have a pug. Both are great, if you are more active I would go with a large dog while if you are more into relaxing and having a loving lap dog I would go with a small dog

If you can't decide... Get both. Go for a medium size dog. I have one and he's awesome! A terrier mix. He's sweet, caring, affectionate, never begs, doesn't bark at people, very intelligent, won't jump up on you, won't slobber all over you, and all he has to do to get attention is just sit there and whoever is around will come over and pet him. ;) He's got a big dog bark, and very powerful frame, though his breed has shorter legs to be able to get into areas that larger dogs can't get into. Here's some pics of him on flickr. He's about 12 or 13 now.

I love most dogs, all sizes

Giant dogs are beautiful and superb in a home surrounded with lots of land

Years ago my neighbor brought home a St Bernard puppy

He was adorable and loved by all

As he grew I saw him eat an entire back yard

He actually whittled down several trees

He was so big that their young children would ride him

Large dogs are great if they have room to roam
Would not consider having a large dog in a confined space.
Neither one of us would be happy

Small dogs are wonderful companions for apartment and condo dwellers
They are great for seniors, handicapped and travel companions

Large breeds are the best. They don't jump on you all the time. They don't bark for hours without shutting up. They don't have a high pitched shrieking bark that makes your head hurt. And they have better personalities. You can play with them a lot more then you can with little dogs.
