Pastor Billy says: absolutely nowhere, the first answer from cushlain completely mispresents the scriptural text of 2Tim3.
Where do we find the context of "only"? nowhere the text instructs that it is "profitable" meaning helpful yet nowhere does it instruct scripture alone is our sole rule of faith.
So many Protestants sects claim to be "bible churches" and "bible centered" yet they all receive a different message on key doctrine such as salvation, justification, baptism and so on.
Let us assume 2Tim3:15-16 was instructing as cushlain would like us to believe we would have to logically reject 2Timothy and all other scripture which form the NT as Paul is eluding to "the scripture you have known from your youth" when writing to Timothy. What scripture is this? Why it is the Old Testament. If you read the verses prior Paul also is talking on oral tradition and for Timothy to be mindful from where he received his instruction as many strange and false prophets are to come ie. Protestantism, Arianism, Nestorianism, etc etc...

How about the first century AD
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Paul's instruction to Timothy here is pretty tight - Scripture only makes the man of God complete
****
Secondly, it works every day at the congregational level, in churches that are composed of people who genuinely seek after only the BIble.
So now you have two examples. Does this convince you, since you stated you need only one?

hi, Sue. Sola scriptura ("only scripture") has no longer worked properly as a skill of awareness God's revelation for quite a few motives. First, God has no longer addressed his creatures only in scripture. His popular skill of communication is elevating up prophets whose cogent messages, continuity with previous revelation, and private holiness attest to their veracity as revelators. Jesus became certainly one of those prophet, yet extra advantageous than a prophet. the only uncomplicated writings of Jesus have been scratched into the airborne dirt and dust as some Pharisees have been reconsidering their plan to stone a woman taken in adultery. He taught by using recognize mouth and by using exemplary deeds. the recent testomony is only a determination of historic writings approximately Jesus and his apostles and a few letters using Jesus' teachings to problems with theology and morality. 2d, sola scriptura hasn't worked by way of fact it excludes considered necessary contextual concepts. as an occasion, to understand approximately no remember if "born returned" is approximately baptism, and no remember if babies could be baptized, you're able to look at info previous the Bible, e.g., interior the Didache, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Hippolytus, Clement, Cyprian, Cyril, Athanasius, Basil, the Council of Carthage, Ambrose, Gregory of Nyssa, John Chrysostom, Gregory of Nazianz, and Augustine. finally, sola scriptura is hubris. No man or woman has the scholarship to paintings out the which skill of historic texts, written in numerous languages, depending on super historic past and archaeology, with out the community of Christian pupils who've been engaged on those texts by way of fact the 1st century. which would be like imagining that a man or woman could deliver jointly all contemporary scientific awareness of drugs with out guidance from the scientific community going returned to Hippocrates. Cheers, Bruce

is unity of doctrine the sole purpose of Christianity? I thought it was glorifying God and embracing the eternal gift of salvation through Christ Jesus. That I believe I can give you many examples of.
