Newsflash: We ARE winning in Iraq. If you turned the channel off of CNN, ABC, NBC and navigated to something other than the daily kos you would know that cities, such as Baghdad, haven't been more safe in years and the people are returning to normal lives.
Besides being tied up in two other countries, we're actually trying diplomacy first via talks, then sanctions. There's also the touchy areas of Iran's allies to worry about. Russia, China, and Venezuala would require a military draft, at the very least, to even think about taking them on as well.

Because the politicians are still making money on the war in Iraq. Don't misunderstand me I support the war to an extent. The fact is there is no other world power that can stand against the full-force of the American Military. Open your eyes, Our politicians are in Bed with the Saudis, who benefit regardless of who wins by the way, but ask yourself, who is making money off this war? There are contractors over there "rebuilding" a country that will get torn down the instant we leave. The fact we could probablyLLEVELthe Middle east in a month with our airforce, Navy and Ground infantry and don't forget the most important Force, the American Workforce.
This war is moneymaker For the politicians who support and oppose it. How you ask? Think lobbyists, social programs, businesses tha want to make money of of government conracts.
When Iraq ceases to be profitable we will go into Iran

The United States is spread pretty thin. Any more deployments will require the government to "encourage" more enlistments and an increasing militarization of the country's economy-- if not our children.
Unfortunately the idiot in the White House has spent all of his political capital (and our military blood as well)to the point that he cannot get the American people to support anything.
So we can't get a unified front within the country.
I don't doubt that the Iranians are building atomic weapons and will use them in the future(non us and israel). But our president has so damaged our country and its reputation, that we may not be able to respond politically or militarily.

The consequences of war in Iran would be cutting off a major oil supply to Russia and China. There would be even more competition for available oil sources which would result in the U.S. being short of oil as well. Just the threat of further conflicts in the Mid East is raising the price of oil to all time highs.

Because we don't have the money or the troops to support our campaign in Iraq and Afghanistan, let alone invade another country. If we invaded Iran, it would give serious credibility to those who feel that the US is hell bent conquering Islam.

I don't know but I'm very very glad that it is. Doesn't every country have a duty to protect its citizens - why should anyone think this concept should only apply to America and Americans? Why shouldn't Iran take steps to protect its citizens - why shouldn't it take the same steps to protect its citizens as, for example, Israel? And what earthly right does America have to attack Iran in any case?

You have to understand that this reluctance is not new. Iran has been daring America to attack it for the last 28 years.
In that context, it's mistifying. I honestly don't understand what the hold-up could be. We've had enough nukes to destroy the world several times over, the whole time, why can't we destroy Iran just once?

It's because the people of this country are tired of the war being fought on lies and distortions.
The US is too heavily committed right now in both Afghanistan and Iraq to do much to Iran militarily as it is. (Airstrikes won't do jack diddley. Just ask Israel about its "Hezbolah" experience.)
