Easy, is it Biblical. Is it practical. Does it honor God.

Starlight,
If you have the time go back and read John 10:1-10 and tell me what you think the overall message of those verses are. I've heard so many say it's teaching about hearing God's voice. I'm not so inclined to follow that. First Jesus is telling a parable of the Good Shepherd and not giving a lecture on how to commune with God per se. Jesus even goes on to reiterate what it is that he was saying because the disciples did not understand it. If it was just a plain jane and obvious as "you will hear me talk to you" it would seem that the disciples would have figured that one out. What's going on here is Jesus teaching that those who are his own will KNOW him. The sheep recognize the voice of the shepherd because they KNOW their shepherd. The emphasis is not on the hearing of the voice but knowing God and following him. Jesus exacts words are this when he begins to explain to the disciples exactly what his parable meant: I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me.

This isn't a lecture on how to hear God's voice. Hope that helps somewhat.

God Bless,
SC

Great question!!

1). It'll line up with His written word. Even if there isn't a specific scripture, it'll line up with the spirit of the Bible.

2). There will be an inner peace and a "know that you know."

3). "Rhema" words that He speaks to us usually when reading the Bible. It's like a light that goes on inside and you usually exclaim "I never saw that before!" You have a revelation on a truth He's wanting to show you.

4). Sometimes He'll confirm it with scripture, other people sharing something, or a circumstance.

Remember getting to know Him and His voice is just like any other relationship. It takes time and talking. Sharing your thoughts, feelings, experiences with Him. And then getting quiet and listening for that still small voice on the inside.

Key: Don't try too hard. Get quiet and listen. He's there! He living in you by His Spirit and wanting to fellowship with you! :)

Come on, you are quoting a book that was written minimum 20 years after Jesus supposedly died. That is when the earliest book of the disciples that the Council of Nicea allowed into the Bible. There were more books written by disciples but they were not let in, for some unknown reason (well we actually do know the reasons behind as letting all the books in would have weakened the religious business due to contradictions). And the disciples would never have had the ability to write, due to most of their backgrounds. And then Jesus was quoted word for word by these people who did not write, at a minimum 20 years after he died. That would have been 20+ years after most conversations. Come on, let us live in reality. Do you remember conversations word for word 25 years after the fact? That is not even admissible in a court of law after that time.

It is only by a close walk with the Lord over much time that your spiritual ears can truly know the difference. It is just like a sheep, who follows its master for a time. At fist the shepherd has to herd the sheep along, but eventually they learn to know his voice.

Hebrews 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

I do I can tell the difference, and I really don't know how. When God speaks it's so soft and subtle, it's just THERE and it IS and there's a feeling that is without doubt...I usually feel fearful or guilty or anxious when it's the other speaking to me. People say that when you know you're in love with someone enough to spend the rest of your life with them you just know, same idea. Also as some others said, a lot of Him speaking is in alignment with His words, the Bible. Reading the Bible helps you to get to know God, to know His character, so that when He speaks (or doesn't) you know.

The voice of God always is in line with His word.

Satan desires to have us (1) stray from God's word and (2) submit to our own selfish, fleshly desires.

Bank tellers are trained not to recognize false money exactly, but they handle real money over and over and over, that is how they can spot a fake. A Christian needs to be well versed in the word of God (His voice) so that we can discern when the "fake" tries to fool us.

God will not lie or contradict his nature nor contradict his word in the Bible. He wants us to find answers in the Bible. Most of the time a voice you think you might hear is either your own ego or too much Pepperoni Pizza.

It all comes back to what God's word says- if is from God it is in His word. It is in line with scripture. Spiritual discernment is very important in a believers walk with the Lord and we should be praying for it daily~
