Unlike some others here, I believe- no, I KNOW, that God does speak to us. He speaks to me all the time.
But He doesn't tell you things like 'spank your monkey'...

I was confused about this very issue until this year. The answer is just to read the Bible (and talk to people who are spiritual leaders when you don't understand it).

If God is telling you something, it will NOT conflict with ANYTHING in the Bible. For instance, you can be sure that He's not telling you to go blow up a school as a suicide bomber- because one of the Ten Commandments is 'Thou Shalt Not Murder'!!

Sometimes it's not as obvious as this, but the Lord is logical (He should be, He invented logic) so until you get to where you know what His voice sounds like, it's best to ask someone with more experience, and failing that, err on the side of common sense.

Actually, the best thing you can do is pray about it- ask God to make remove any obstacles that would prevent you from hearing Him, and make His will crystal clear to you.

Prayer works, and God DOES listen- no matter what others tell you.

(The only thing that prevents your prayers from being heard is not forgiving people.)

Hello,,actually the Lord would ask you to resist the temptation to flog yourself, the Devil would tell you to do it again and again until you die for the glory of self abuse and hurtful practices. The Lord has spoken to you but you have deaf ears to His words and the truth is hiding deep within you waiting for the right moment to set you free from the path to self destruction. I suggest you go out to the streets near you and yell this question to the world around you and see what answers are available!

People will think that I am crazy and I'm sure I'll get tons of thumbs down for this, but I have heard the voice of God, a true voice, once. I had been steadily praying for God to reveal Himself to me in a more profound way. I had felt far away from Him for sometime, even though I had not stopped believing, I just didn't feel the closeness. One morning I woke up to a soft, but loud man's voice. He called me by name and then said,"Come, spend some time with me." I shot up out of bed because I knew it wasn't my husband's voice and I was a bit taken a back by it. When I first opened my eyes, my room was well lit, even though it was still dark outside and no lights were on. I saw my husband still asleep lying next to me and knew it wasn't him. The light slowly faded away and I laid there for a long time wondering if I was going crazy, but I knew what I heard. I knew it wasn't a dream, because I was already waking up when I heard the voice. I will never forget that experience and believe that He was telling me that it isn't Him that needs to draw closer to me, but me that needs to draw closer to Him.

The Lord can speak to you, of course first you have to be a born again Christian, and the Lord would never tell you to go against his word, like commiting fornication. Jesus said in John 3:3 that you must be Born Again to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. When you get Born Again the Holy Spirit will come and live in your heart and guide and direct your life to bring Glory to the Lord, It will speak to you in a small still voice, The Lord has spoken to me many times, I have been saved for a long time. Do you believe Jesus came and died on a Cross at Calvery for you? Do you believe Jesus arose from the grave the third day forever opening the door to salvation to all who will call upon his name? If you do then you too can be saved and Born Again, just pray this simple sinners Prayer of Faith and a new life with Christ can begin, but you must want to serve Jesus with all your heart and soul. Jesus knows your heart, if you are ready to give your life to him just pray Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

The only way the Lord speaks is through his words. But if you are one of his then his spirt can speak to us...Not literally of course but let us know what we are and are not to do. By the way he doesnt tell you to jerk off because the Bible says that it is a sin to spill your seed to the earth.

This is a question that no one can answer except those who claim to have received divine messages. It is all a question of religious belief.

With regard to jerking off, as you call it: No, it's not the Lord, it's Satan.

God can speak to them as one man speaks to another but it is very rare. Slightly more common, he will speak to someone in a dream or have one of his servants,(angels) speak to then in his name. But most common is the still small voice of the Holy Ghost. Now there are several reasons he usually only speaks through the Holy Ghost but the most common is that God does not want to interrupt our ability to have free choice. Or in other words after the Holy Ghost puts thoughts into your head you may if you so wish choose to ignore with out condemnation. His talking in a dream is very spiritual and borders on condemnation if you refuse to do as he has said. His speaking to you in person is only done through the Holy Ghost and if you refuse or deny it then you deny the Holy Ghost and therefor you have committed the only sin that Jesus cannot atone for, there by sealing the persons soul to damnation. That is why only very few of his prophets have had him come to them in person. God gives us all the chances he can.

Hi Glen.
Yes, He has spoke to me and touched me.
I can tell the difference between my own thoughts, emotions and such compared to our Father intervening with me.
It's too complicated for me to explain with a migrane right now and would probably get too long, but, i just know He has, it wasen't a subconscious thing or dream etc, it was Him.

No he does not. If you look at the scriptures and the individuals that God spoke to, you will not find them wondering whether or not God talked to them the other day. If you are wondering and unsure, then be rest assured, he hasn't spoken to you. God doesn't TRY or make ATTEMPTS. If he wants something accomplished, then it's done. If he wants to speak to you, you will know it.

God Bless,
SC

The Lord does not put distinct thoughts in your head.
That's not how things work. God's influence can be seen in that there are no coincidences. That's my opinion.
