Shouldn't let it sleep with you unless you want to find some yucky surprises in your bed in the morning. A crate would be best but the pup will cry a lot until it gets used to it. They are wonderful little dogs, very loyal, loving, cuddly, sweet, smart. How old is the puppy? I hope it is at least 8 weeks old. It should be eating dry puppy food by now. Leave the food out for the pup all day so it can eat when it wants, if not you are looking at hypoglycemia(low blood sugar). Will anyone be home during the day to let it out? A small chi pup can only hold its pee and poo for about 2-3 hours. You can use puppy pads when no one is around to let it out. With the food also, make sure you get the small bites because they can get choked on bog pieces of dog food. Don't feed it table food or it will never want to eat its puppy food which is what it needs to be healthy and strong. Email me thru my profile page if you have more questions. I have owned chihuahuas over 30 yr and been raising them for over 9.

Hi, I'm Dennis B. I'm a Chihuahua lover, and I have one. She's a 23 month old female, and I've had her since she was real young. I've taken time to read the other answers. It's all a matter of personal views. The bottom line is your sanity, and the pet's health. I searched for a real long time, waiting to find the one I really wanted. I found her. She's definitely an indoor pet. House-breaking. I developed an easy follow system. No CRATE EVER involved. I had my plan, and I stuck to it. She widdled on the hardwood floor. NOT a problem. I had the newspaper ready in the area of my choice. FIRST, I dabbed her pee from a paper towel, to the middle of the newspaper. ONE TIME, I introduced her nose to her unknown mistake. AFTER THAT, she seeked out The newspaper, about a week. She's bonafide 98% mistake free. She has a back-up doggie bed. SHE sleeps with me. OK. I'm a bachlor. SHE does not mess, where she sleeps. At night, she'll get up, go for the newspaper, and get back into bed. They are EXTREMELY loyal. If they really get mad, they can go ECW, and you won't recognize them. They have a hidden defense side. Not against you, but what ticks them off. THEY DON"T recognize their small size. Good luck. You made a great choice. THE only major huge problem I have, is her weird appitite. She will not eat dog food. I have to be pretty health minded, and extremely creative. Feel free to E-mail me off my Avatar. Anyone with Chi"s. Peace. Dennis B.

You didn't say how old the pup is but chihuahuas are very small and if they jump from the bed they can break a leg and you will won't to crate it to keep it from getting into something that will make it sick (I use baby play-pens for mine)also chihuahuas(under 3 lbs) have a low blood sugar if the sugar drops and you don't get it back up fast they can die so get some NURTI_CAL from your vet or pet store give it at least twice a day and if it starts to acting funny like it is weak or can't stand give it to it then and they will not eat much at a time so keep food and water in with them 24/7 you will not want to take it outside or around other dogs till it has all 4 sets of shots(around 4 months old) so you will need to use potty pads till after the shots are up to date.Don't bath it if it is under 4 months use the baby wipes to wash it off everyday pups can get messy at times keep it warm chihuahuas are a cold breed

first chi are very hard to house break, and often times never completely house broken. IF you want it to always sleep with you then put it in your bed. It will cry when it has to potty or eat because it won't potty where it sleeps. If not in same bed close to your bed so you can hear it. It will wake up at nite several times like a baby does for the first month or so, make sure you are ready for that. The love to be under blankets and get very attached to the person who is the main care taker. Think long and hard like I said a new chi is much like a baby in their demands and at 14 it could be very diffficult.

Well rule of thumb. It is your dog. If you feel comfortable letting it sleep with you then you should that. let your dog out as much as possible esecially if it is a puppy. Just remember dogs come into a rountine rather quickly so make sure you keep repeating the things you do with them on a daily baisis. Try too take your dog out at the same time every day feed it at the same time thigs like that. Also when the dog does something right don't always go for the treat, only becasue they will get used to that and you don't want them to be overweight. Praise works just as well as a treat for a dog, because unlike a cat dogs are very human dependent. Hope this helps sorry I rambled a bit. But congratulations!!

Honestly, you should have already researched this information. *shakes head* But, since you obviously didn't....
You do not let the puppy sleep in your bed. You make him sleep in the crate. The crate will keep him safe. In your bed, he would be able to get off the bed and run wild in the house, and you would very likely have some yucky stuff to clean up. You could also accidentally roll over your puppy (how unfortunate that would be!). You should take the puppy out about every one to two hours at first. As he gets older, you will be able to wait longer, and he will probably let you know when he needs to go.
Please do some research tonight. You should know this stuff before you get a puppy. You should also already know about the breed.

my partner n i just bought a chihua pup about 4 months ago. he was only 6 weeks old when we picked him up. we tried to have him sleep in his own bed next to ours, but he wasn't having it. he would cry and crawled into our bed (our matress is very low to the ground) so we left him sleep in between us. we found out that he is most comfortable underneath all of the covers. as far as the whole bathroom situation goes we bought puppy pads for him and set them out in the living room. we would both take turns waking up every 2 to 3 hours and put him on the pad. eventually he would just walk over to the pad and go. everytime he went on the pad we gave him praise and a treat. whatever you do..do not yell at a puppy if he goes on your carpet or anywhere else that is not a puppy pad. he will then start to fear you and and make the corrilation of peeing around you is a bad thing. just give him praise if he does the right thing. he will then start to learn. be patient..and good luck!

When i got my chihuahua we had her sleep in a cage the first night and she whined forever the second night so we didn't make her sleep in it anymore. We take her out every couple hours. If she it goes potty in the house just rub their nose in it and they will learn not to go in the house. Chihuahua's are loyal and they bark at people but don't attack them. They bark every time they see or hear someone but you get used to it after a while. If you have any questions message me at iamasweetheart10@yahoo.com !

Do not let it share your bed, or even go upstairs!!!!!!! You are going to be asking for trouble. As its a puppy, I'd crate train it. So at night it has its own bed and doesn't get out and make a mess in your house.
You will get to know the signs of when it wants the toilet, sometimes circling is a good sign. When it wakes up take it outside, and if it does have an accident then take the dog directly outside. Don't shout at it, as accidents do happen. But if it does go outside to do its business make a real fuss of him/her.
I tell my clients its like having a 2 year old child. Lots of praise and patience.
Good Luck, and don't spoil him too much.

I am 43 years old. And I am baby sitting my room mates 5 month old Chihuahua. The rule of thumb is he/she likes her own place to sleep. He/she needs a crate that rule of thumb is tall enough and wide enough just for him/her to stand up and roll arround and be able to move. they love blankets, I knitted one for my room mates and she loves lying in it. She also has wool patting a layer of it, that you can purchase in any pet store. Also every two hours depending on how old your puppy is you will be responsible to get her out at night and during the day. So hope you know that it will be your responsibility for all eternity. Good luck......
