Well, there are not TRUE "benefits" per se...
But a person smokes because they are addicted. Nicotine, the drug in cigarettes that makes them addicting, is extremely powerful. It can work as a stimulant or a relaxer. It prods the body to release chemicals that make a person feel calmer or just 'better". It suppresses the appetite as well.
That said, most people start smoking because of peer pressure, or just the fact that they grew up in a smoking household and see it as normal behavior (like I did).
The truth of the matter is that it kills people, drains their health and their money, stinks, damages their kids and others with secondhand smoke, and is just all around a nasty habit. I have tried to quit a few times. I hope I will succeed in that before it's too late.

When I began smoking, cigarettes were only 25 cents a pack. Not long before and during that time, the government was promoting the act of smoking and gave free cigarettes to the enlisted men and women. They benefited from the tax, you see. I honestly cannot think of any benefits from smoking... but after smoking more than half my lifetime.. it sure is an ugly bear to stop now!

No benefits, When we were young it was the cool thing to do. In the Army they would have little six packs in our rations. Now it's the addiction to nicotine. Very difficult to kick.. The times that I have tried, it changed my personality.. I fired people that may have not deserved it. No one wanted to be around me. Don't do it no matter what anyone tells you.. You wrinkle faster and more. Coughing and hacking. not to mention the $ I could go on but I think you get what I mean..

For the 'high'; but the long-term ill-effects, far outweigh the very temporary 'high' effect. They become chain smokers because the 'high' effect lasts for lesser & lesser time every time they smoke a new cigarette.

becasue they want to thats why. why do you have this opinion becuase you are allowed to right. what do you gain of understanding why people smoke. why do we worry about dumb things like smoking when there is a so called war going on. why do we worry about gay marriage when our government runs us into the ground. why do we push our values on others when we wouldnt let them push theres on us. why

Because they get fooled into smoking from peer pressure.
Then they get addicted, and they can't stop.
Well they CAN, but it's hard for them.
There are NO beneits, unless you love lung cancer.

It's a habit, and therefore it's comforting. There are no "benefits", except it's familiar.....that's why it's called a habit.
