Most of your schools will advise you to check with your states licensing board for professionals. Since each state is different, you will need to look at yours specifically.

Good Luck.

I cannot speak for your school, or your individual state, but I have practiced in 5 states and have had X-ray techs in my clinics so the rules have been similar in those cases.

Before attending school, everyone has to submit to a criminal background check. This is normally a requirement by the state for the school to instruct in health care professions. In the criminal background check, they normally request a fingerprint card. Even if the record is expunged, your fingerprints will always be onfile in AFIS. You have been in prison, and that cannot change. Most states have a section of their occupations code which list which misdemeanors and felonies are a basis of denial for certification of licensure.

Before having the full background check, talk to a counselor at the school, or someone with your State Department of Health Service who probably oversees the X-Ray Tech certifications. They are your best source of information.

My best advice is: do not try to hide the facts through expunging the details, due to your being in prison, you are in the permanent AFIS fingerprint database, and you will show up on the background check.

Seems so...but I have read of many so called expunged records that live forever...our mayor in Norton, Ohio had his so called expunged record come alive 33 years later, a felony...and he is no longer mayor. Just get a great lawyer to do the necessary work, and my guess is that you are safe. But nothing is totally dead in the information cyber world.

You need to make sure that record is expunged, and if it is, there is no way possible it can be found--unless you tried applying to work for a government position that required an extensive security background check.

In so many other words--you'll be okay.

Universities run a background check on prospective students, now. Good luck.
It will be up to the university you attend.
