I want to join the army rangers but I don't want to be stuck over there. Is there anyway I can be guaranteed to only have a 2 year service and then be let go. I want the experience but I don't want to live my life in war. I think this would help me not take my life for granted as much.

Alright the wording may be messed up for all of you who don't think I can handle it, I am glad you can assume. It is the army or firefighting and I can't decide. The reason I am scared of going to the army is not dying but I don't want be tricked into a 20 year service. I know people who have been screwed over by the government. I love how people assume they know someone through a question online. I know I can handle it and no way am I scared of dying.

the rangers dont want you with that short of a period of time. they fall under the US Army Special Ops command.. special operation troops are not trained overnight. if they put all this money and time into your training, youll end up having a year at most to serve with your unit. its a waste of time. you can join for a short period of time like that, but not to any unit in USASOC. also keep in mind that any enlistment, is an 8 year enlistment. you get out after 2 years but you go on inactive reserve. this means that you dont actually do anything, but when the army decides they need people in your job, they call you up, buy you a plane ticket and send you right back to iraq.

8 years my friend, 8 years.

Y E S from 2 years Active, 2 years US Army Reserves and 2 years Inactive US Reserves.
That is not a guarantee that you will not be deployed. In order to be a US Army Ranger,
you will have to have more than 2 years.

if that's your attitude don't join.

It will take you longer then 2 years just for the training. Besides, as an Army Ranger you will have a Service Obligation of some extra years because of all the time and money spent to train you.

Nope all enlistments are for 8 years. However, Serving 2 years of active duty will still keep you in the "inactive guard" for the following 6 years. Thats an example. Most MOS jobs in the Army have a greater than 2 year active duty requirement. Its up to you how to choose.

yeah you join for a certain amout of time (it's in your contract) the minimum I've seen is 2 years cause by the time you finish training your already done with your 1st year. But if you want to go ranger you'll have to do a 5 year contract. If your afraid to go to war then don't join the military.

Do you want a written guarantee that you will be here on earth tomorrow? You will have to ask God then, not yahoo answers.
To appreciate life you don't have to join do you?
When you say you don't wanna be stuck you want a guarantee. First thing I think if you really want out, then I hear people shoot themselves in the foot. That is one way out early I guess, or disgrace or something. But I can't help think who
will guarantee you won't die in one way or another just short of your two year maximum desired stay?
It is not a quick fix Macdonald's drive through. You gotta learn to chill a while.

It'll take at least 2 years to be a Ranger. Be a cook or something if that's all the time you have to devote to an elite team.

the minimum is 4 years, it is possible to leave in less that time, but it may hit you hard financially, besides, if you cant do that sort of commitment, you shouldnt go for the military, there are plenty of other ways to pick up experience.
