Seriously, what's the big deal? It's not like Christ was a bad guy. What is so horrible about celebrating his birthday? Why do adults have to throw legal temper tantrums to take away the lights and songs for children? Why cry and get offended? Aren't there better things in this world to worry about? Are you that bored?
O.K., so you don't believe in Christ. So what? Why is it so hard for some people just to walk by? Why is it so terrible that a city puts up a Christmas tree? Or an employee somewhere says, 'merry Christmas?' Are these the same people who couldn't get Howard Stearn off the air? (I am NOT a fan)
Let the lights shine. Put up the decorations, remember what Christ did. Not who his daddy was. Why is that so hard?
Maybe it's my over tolerant pagan mind, but I just don't see the big deal.

Bah, humbug. People have nothing better to do. Taking the devils advocate approach I would say that people are tired of having religion shoved down their throats. And people of different religions may feel awkward with it. Whether you believe in the religion or not, what is wrong with holding to some of our traditions? Personally I think it is a great tradition. We need more Christmas in the world! And it by far the most beautiful and yummy holiday with all the lights, decorations and feasts. I'm counting down the days until Christmas already.

The heart of the reason is the people in question are afraid some one is having a good time. We don't know when Christ's birthday was there were multiple calenders in use.
Enven in the Rome there would be confusion as you weregoing from a calnder with an averaqge of 10 months to one with 12 months and had the issue of the Mercedonius Intercalation which was added around feburary to correct for soloar error.
but wound up being polticaly abused as the Pontificat maximus would added at whim. Some time to shorten the time in office of a rival or to lengthen the time of a friend.which causesd a period of the years of confusion where know one was sure what the date was... then they use the pagan holiday exuse..any day you find probably had some pegan east conected with it.

~I agree with your stance, but I have never heard of people being offended by Christmas.

The Holiday season is not just a Christian celebration. Many MANY religions celebrate a religious holiday at the end of December. Pagans and neo-pagans celebrate Yule, the birth of god, Jews have Hanukkah, and I am sure there are many more. Not to mention New Years, an all American holiday.

Incidentally, the decorating of an evergreen tree is a Pagan tradition.

The thing is that you can take your pick from the following who had the same birthday and the same ! Mithra of the Persians, Paul of Babylon, Baal - sun god and others.

All had the same birthday and all died for the sins of mankind!

Even Christan scholars cannot confirm his birth one time hes born in Jerusalem then in Nazareth etc. If it was an actual Christan celebration how come it didn't go the same way all the other actions of Christianity? Disappeared!! most people don't even go to Church!

Christmas now has become a larger corporate spending spree which keeps may people in their jobs its got little to do with Christianity!

I'm an atheist and I'm not offended. Mostly because Christmas has NOTHING to do with christ... at all!! LOL, I think it's funny that you think it does. My problem with this time of year is the fact that everyone assumes that only christians exist - that a menorah cant be put up next to the tree - or any other religious markings. I think that if we are going to celebrate (even if it is falsely) one religion, we should celebrate them all!

This "war on Christmas" stuff is so exaggerated. I don't think I've ever met an atheist, agnostic, or nonreligious person that was actually offended by someone putting up a Christmas tree or saying Merry Christmas. I don't understand where this myth came from that all non-Christians want to erase all signs of Christmas from everywhere (maybe it came from Fox News, I don't know. Wherever it came from, it's not true).

Christmas was not Christ birthday. It is a Pagan holiday celebrating the winter soltice that was co-opted by Christians AS Christ birthday. Besides, the war on Christmas is figment of Bill O'Riely's imagination.

A parable to this story would be like a person that is in the dark for a long time and their eyes are adjusted to the darkness for years of their life. Then a light is turned on and they hate the light for it has nothing to do with the darkness and all the things around them start to become clear and stuff is exposed. Then you see the mess around and all the work that would have to be done , so quick snuff out that light. The light is despised by the darkness.

I use to live in a small poor town that wanted to spend enormous amounts of money celebrating christmas, while cutting needed city services to save money.I am not offended by Christmas but I do not think taxpayers dollars should be used to fund celebration.

Well, I agree with you. But Christians throw just as big of a hissy fit on Halloween, so as a group...we shouldn't be all that surprised.

lupinesidhe: The fact that it is not his exact birthday doesn't mean anything. Today, it is celebrated as his birthday...so that is the signifcance of it. And why would that make you hate Christmas anyway?
