Because for some people faith is just that, and it does not become tangible. It is easy to blame God , none of use have any real proof of his existence. So to blame something like a tragedy on God becomes easy since he may not even exist, and if he does, how could he allow such a thing to happen, so then he deserves the blame. In general religion is the cause for more tragedy than any war has ever done.

That's a really good question I just think it makes things harder on people when they face tragedy in their lives but not always do they give up their faith in God sometimes they get closer to God in those times, it really depends on the individual their personality and how their relationship with God and their faith was to begin with, If their faith were very fervent then I don't think they give up faith and if not it's easier to give up.

Many people of faith are closet atheists, they play the game of believing because their family and friends and the society they live in believe. When a tragedy happens they say enough of this garbage.

Because we are human. God never gives up on us but may times we give up on him. Sometimes it is out of anger or something that we dont understand at that time. But one thing I have learn about God is that he always is loving and wooing us back to him even when we say forget it. That is what is awesome about God. Even when you are acting a fool and making all kinds of mistakes he is preparing a feast for your deliverance. This is nothing new- After the israelites were deliver out of slavery in eygpt and left with eygpts gold, soon as time got rough, they started serving idols and used the gold God blessed them with to even make the idols.

There is an false belief, whether subconscious or conscious, that if you do God's will, nothing bad will happen to you. When tragedy strikes, it strikes at that belief causing many to falter and some to ultimately denounce their faith.

But so many more people give up atheism when tragedy hits their lives. Funny how that works.

I think this tragedy causes people to question their beliefs.
And I believe when you question something that everyone deep down knows is the biggest lie ever told. There is only one inevitable outcome.

You watch too many movies.
That's how people always become atheist in the movies, but not in real life. In real life, the majority of atheists just came to the realization that belief in magical, invisible, supernatural beings doesn't make sense.

well some don't have to go through tragedies to turn from God. a lot of them don't believe because they don't see God.
