Some sayings are repeated because they are catchy. This particular one is more upsetting and troubling than most.
It implies that if you could handle less, then God would have made you endure less. So try telling the mother of a child that just died that if she wasn't as strong, her child might still be alive. The saying is cruel and unfeeling and I have never known of it to truly be a source of comfort to anyone in actuall distress.
It is also inaccurate. All you have to do is look around you to see legions of people that have been given more than they can hande. Try that saying to a villager in Darfur that has just had his family wiped out.

Yes. I believe it. God knows how much a person can handle and will always provide you with the help you need. What happens is that you feel you just can't take anymore of a situation and it becomes unbearable and then you need to pray and trust God and he helps you. That way you learn to trust God and know that He will always be there for you. It increases your faith in God. So when the next problem arises you will have more trust and you will be less fearful that you won't be helped by God. If you had no problems you wouldn't need God and so difficulties draw us closer to the Lord.

I do believe this quote..it is said that God will never put us in a place that He hasn't been through Himself. God created us and only He knows our true limitations. We as humans have a tendency to cop out or give up way sooner than we need to. This is where the suicide comes in. God allows it to happen even though He knows we have more to give because He also gave us free will. However, I do believe that suicide is automatic eviction from Heaven because it is a sin that you cannot repent for once it is done. There have been many times that I was ready to give up but faith and trust and prayer got me through and guess what...I could handle it...REMEMBER the story:
Footprints in the Sand.
In regard to whatsyou: God allows death in order for His children to be taken Home. Death is a part of life and this is not cruel to say to someone who has had a loss. It has meaning. When hearing this the person should know that God planned this and He knows they are strong. He still has plans for them and they must continue on to carry them out. It also lets us know that there are hard, troubling times and He will help us get through them when they get too overwhelming for us. He wants it to be a learning experience so that they might share with others and comfort them in times of trials. You must not believe in God and His ultimate plans and mercies huh?

Yes, because God is a fair and just God and to put anything on one that they could not handle would not be fair to them. The problem is that many are stronger than they thank they are and then some are just plan lazy and need something to whimper about all the time, they are just not happy, if they are NOT happy.

Yes I believe it because it says it in His word.
God fights my battles. For the people who have said things about suicide in their answers, I know for a fact that those statements are irrelevant here. I am a Christian, and have had moments where I was suicidal at points in time, mostly in high school. So, I know that when people do not know God's love, they feel things differently, and they don't have the hope that kept me going when I reached those low points I reached. If you don't know that you can get through it, of course you will give up much easier. I go by what God says.

I think we are capable of handling horrible things and still being able to go on with our lives, with or without God.
As far as a god or some force deciding what will happen with you, wouldn't that take away from someone's freewill somewhere along the line?

The quote actually is not biblical. I do believe there are many people who are suffering terribly in this world. If you are a Christian, you can be assured that God will work all things for good, because His word promises that.
There are lots of cliches that are not really scriptural, I'd like to see us stick to His word.

Yes and no.
I say both, because it is a matter of peoples' perception of what they can handle vs. what they would rather handle. It is also a matter of people facing what they feel they cannot handle and allow God to give them strength beyond the circumstances.

It is very true, but only in the sense that he doesn't give you less than you can handle, either. God gives you nothing at all. God does not exist.

Bipolar disorder often goes undiagnosed since birth, true clinical depression (a chemical unbalance), like bipolar I and II, also has a genetic factor, though it needs to be brought on by events, unlike bipolar. Both of these illnesses can produce states, both physical and emotional, that most could never imagine, and these two illnesses are behind a lot of suicides.
No....
