Not really. They are just tools and even in the caves people made art with what they had handy.

I think it made a lot of art possible. New tools is new art. But the artists themselves are 'culturally motivated' and not by the tools they use.

So you could say it opened the door for 20th Century Art.

I believe paint tubes existed earlier, so if there has to be one answer to this odd question, I'm going to say "synthetic pigments".

But really, I can't think of one example of any of the above "opening doors" for anyone.

Paint tubes .......before that it must have been a very time-consuming and wasteful business. It's a wonder they ever had time to paint at all.
