STRESS. Kids can become as stressed as adults. We have better abilities to say this is too much. Kids don't, so they try and behaviors can result, from being tired and cranky, to temper tantrums.
If we do too much in a week, my daughter will beg to stay home!! She is almost six and I'd like to get her into piano lessons, but she already has karate twice a week and a weekly play date with two other girls. She also have physical therapy at school. She gets very tired a the end of the day and just wants to stay home and PLAY. Play is one way kids learn. LET KIDS BE KIDS. otherwise they will be stressed out little adult who will not want to do anything once they ARE adults.
I have heard that kids should do one physical activity, one social activity and one special interest activity. I think this is reasonable

It's the same reason its a bad idea to overschedule adults activities: stress and anxiety. Kids activities are supposed to be fun, but they aren't going to have a good time if they feel rushed all the time.

Well im a kid and im in the 7th grade. I always have so much homework and i take another 5 classes after school. There all diffrent dance classes. Its hard to balance but its so worth it all. I love dancing so I would never give its up even if I have a lot fo homwork. So yu need to talk to your kid about it and ask them wht they want to do about it.

Erm do you meandoing too many activities or being to inflexible. Kids need to know when something is going to happen, but they also need the time to be free and spontaneous! Its all part of their development. Being denied that can lead to problems when they are older.

over work them in out side activities, they are gonna get burnt out and start falling in school work. i dont like the parents who put there kids in 4 different activites, it takes up all there week, the family is always rushed and there is no alone time or family time or friend time. its silly to me. let kids be kids too

ask your child, if they are overwhelmed, back it up a bit, but theres nothing wrong with keeping them busy. it teaches them to enjoy mutiple things, structure, time management, enough exercise, they will make lots of friends. there are a lot of good reasons to, but make sure the child is having fun and not feeling overworked.

I'm guessing because they don't get enough down time, or also don't get enough sleep.
