Can someone please tell me how an illegal alien would go about getting a license anyway??? Wouldn't they just be arrested and deported when they try to obtain one? Is it me or am I just really confused about this? I thought that it was inherent in the word illegal.

No,
You are not confused. it is our politicos that are confused. Didn't you hear Hillary in the debate when asked if she supported Spitzer's plan in N.Y.
She could not, or would not answer the question.
Husband Bill later came on in her defense and said "it is a complicated issue" and we shouldn't pick on her. Oh poor Hillary.
It is not a complicated issue for the majority of Americans because the answer IS inherent in the word ILLEGAL.
Why would you give a drivers license to someone that you know is here in defiance of the law? Why wouldn't you have them arrested?

Somehow that word is confusing...especially to the Clintons.
It is a well known fact that Billary does not understand the word illegal. Just ask them about their campaign contributions

If you asked me, driver's licenses are only the icing on the cake and a small part of a much bigger problem. The illegal immigrants already have sanctuary in many places including Chicago, Illinois so they won't be prosecuted. Allowing illegals to have any kind of license whatsoever would require them to incriminate themselves and therefore would require some kind of "lack of prosecution" or "amnesty" to encourage them to come forward. However, since those who are working in the country illegally have already stolen identities, they may have also acquired driver's licenses -- some of them more than one. A grocery store employer was telling me how he had an opening for a stock clerk. He hired the person and when asked for the social security number, the person pulled out a whole handful of social security cards to find the one with the name he used. The store owner called INS and the Social Security Administration and reported the person. We have no idea what happened to the person after his arrest.

Another person was at the Post Office while a man was applying for a passport. The driver's license he used for identification was rejected and he pulled out several more and asked the postal clerk to pick the one that would work. Obviously, the man didn't understand English and probably couldn't read. Citizens reported that they took pictures and have reported the man but we don't know the outcome.

We're all confused. How can employment services get access to deactivated badges and then hire illegal immigrants to do contract work at O'Hare and other airports using those badges. Reportedly the manager handed the illegal immigrant a box of "deactivated badges", told him to pick out one that had a picture that looked like him and then he used that badge to gain access to secure areas of the airport. How can these employment services get access to secure badges that allow their contractors to gain access to the court houses and other secure government buildings? Several people have reported that people with pictoral entry badges get on the elevators and those who stare at the badges noticed that the people reallly don't look like their pictures. The same is true for train stations. What's really scarry is that ordinary citizens who wish to enter the courthouse must go through metal detectors and have their belongings scanned while those people with badges walk around them. The overwhelming majority of those people do not speak English and carry large bags with them.

We, the people, need to get really tough on the government and demand proper enforcement without amnesty and sanctuary. Remember, if these people use these illegal, fraudulent identifications to work, they will also use them to vote. That is an extremely huge security risk.

A Driver's License is a privilege from the government to make life easier for people who have ability to drive. Because of the amount of undocumented people who are living in US and "some of them" are commit crimes: rapist, thieves and killers make this privilege a bit hard for undocumented alien to obtain.

But in reality anyone should have the right to obtain a Driver's License without their status, since they could pass the test. Don't let this complicated issue, Immigration, turn us like stupid or evil people by treating people with animosity.

It's easier for someone to sit behind his computer to say anything he wants, but it's very much difficult for people in this administration to do such thing like some of us think ... "All undocumented people in US are criminals, we should deport them all"!

IT'S MORE COMPLICATED THAN WE THINK, OTHERWISE AMERICA WILL GET RID OF THAT IN A BLINK EYE.

Are we not the most powerful country in the world?

You are correct. It is a stupid gesture by El Presidente Bush towards his illegal amigos y amigas. Keep adding them all up...it'll take some time.

ICE agents can just be waiting outside the DMVs with an open van. Sweet...

Almost all illegals I come in contact with have drivers licenses (I work for a state government agency). They just hand them out to anyone that asks.

Part of any proposal to give illegals liscences would be a de-facto Amnesty, allowing them, at minimum to aply for the liscence without the state turning them in to the Feds.

So far, they are given an itin# and don't have to show proof of their status. They can just use a BC, or any kind of ID that does not state status. FL has now changed this, and anyone who has to renew their DL must show proof of status.

As I was taught when I learned to drive, and as the judge told me when I was last at court (speeding): Driving is a privelage, not a right.

If you don't belong here, you don't deserve privelages, nor do you have rights beyond the basic human ones. Driving is NOT one of those, drivign is a CITIZEN and LEGAL RESIDENT privelage. even citizens don't have the right to a DL
