Like everyone on this site I have had my trials and tribulations and I fully realize that I am no better than anyone else.

However I struggle with a sense of entitlement like I say I earned the right to be married or I have gone through enough hard times it is about time things start getting good. Lord knows I worked long and hard enough.

What is the best way to overcome selfish entitlement and what are good Bible verses to help with this issue and pride in my life?

I am learning that God, people, family, friends, enemies, co workers, people who hurt me dont owe me a blessed thing.

What are good godly ways to overcome this?

The best way to overcome selfish entitlement is Humility. Nothing can be more pleasing to God then having a humble heart, whereas pride has no place in God's kingdom. Pray for God to help change your heart from being selfishly entitlement fixated to one that is humble and meek.

Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud. Psalm 138:6

And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. Matthew 23:12

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. James 4:10

Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. I Peter 5:5

Actually, it sounds as though you are hurting from what has been done to you. You have to be honest and say, I have been really disappointed in myself and others in the past. But I have a clean slate now. I am entitled to the pursuit of happiness. I may not find it, but I have the right to try. I will surround myself with good supportive people. I am a good person and I like myself. There is nothing wrong with a positive self image. I don't think sitting around in a sack cloth with ashes on your forehead and spouting Bible verses is going to do anythin for you. Come up with a game plan. Set some goals and go for it.

There's no sure fire way to over come this feeling. Just understand, The world does not owe you a living. Life can be summerized by thinking of it as a series of events, some good and some bad, and understanding statistics that sometimes you get more good than bad or more bad than good or an even mix. That's life. Since you have obvisously come to this understanding, the feeling will go away in time.

realise that bad happens to us all..whether we are christians or not..whatever our religion.(im a christian). Things have to happen for a reason. I have loved and lost. I lost a baby grand daughter 5 months ago.She had no bladder and kidneys and her organs were all on the wrong side of her body. She died only 15 hours old. I only got to hold her when she had passed away. She was too precious for this earth.God wanted her with him.I have to think that way. Some things are meant to be. Others not. You will get all of what you deserve in life as well as the bad times. God suffered for us.Noone ever said our lives would be easy. Just live it day to day and enjoy what you have and dont think about the things you havent got.Thats all im afraid i can suggest.Except good luck in your life.

I commend your realizing you are no better than anyone else but please don't feel you are entitled to nothing. If you work, you are entitled to a paycheck. If you treat others with respect you are entitled to receive respect and you are entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Keep looking but don't try too hard to find a mate. It seems the harder we try, the less we are likely to find what it is we are looking for. God loves you very much. Let that be enough for now until you find your life mate. Good luck and God bless!

You ARE Entitled.
To EveryThing Jesus Died on the Cross---to Give US.
You Ony Have to Recieve them.
One, is Salvation of the Spiritman (the First Part of Salvation) Looks like your Already Born-Again! (Spirit Recreated!)

Second Part is "Work out your Own Salvation" from the Evil and Wicked Elements of this Earth at This Time.
This Working Out Includes DELIVERANCE from Selfish Entitlement and Pride (Ego!).

Get into the New Testament and when it Says "In Christ" put Your Name There.
These Things are What your Entitled too!
Say'em out Loud to YourSelf!
Over and Over until You Believe them YourSelf!!!
It Works!!
Brain Wash YourSelf (ReNew your Mind) with The Word of GOD!
The New Testament Says to do it!!! (KJV)

pray

pray for humility. be humble and have a contrite spirit, ask for help in your life, remember god puts you through things so you can be tested after a tribulation say thank you god for that wonderful test, but now it's time to move on, then move on. god doesn't just let things happen to you. he puts you through it so you can learn something new. hopefully you know that he loves you and you are an individual being with great power! remember you are a child of god and you are worth it. also giving service to other people is a GREAT way to feel unselfish. when you are in the service of your fellow men you are only in the service of your god.

some random scripture...
1Peter 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
1Pe 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
1Pe 5:9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
1Pe 5:10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
1Pe 5:11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble [is] wisdom.
James 4:6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."

Romans 5:1 THEREFORE, having been justified by faith, we have[fn1] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Rom 5:2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Rom 5:3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
Rom 5:4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
Rom 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Rom 5:6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

just some random food for thought...always be thankful first for your salvation, and then for the blessings the lord gives.even in trials the lord gives gifts of wisdom and insight.
god bless!

I don't have a bible verse that would help, but I can say to turn whatever you are feeling to God and ask him to take whatever is bothering from you. I have had to do this in my own life and it helps. God can't help you until you let him have it. Two people can't be in control of the situation or whatever is bothering you. He will help you overcome when you turn it over to him.
