If not, how about an educated guess? An assumption based on a reasonable train of logic?...come on, it must be something more than just an unsubstantiated belief. Those guys are so certain that evolution is wrong so their preferred explanation for the number of species that exist today must have something solid to back it up…does it?

Hypothesis: Nope

Educated guess: Educated? Are you serious?

Assumption based on reasonable train of logic: Lost it at "reasonable". Became laughable at "train of logic".

Unsubstantiated belief: Ding ding ding!

Yes The bible says everything produces after it's own kind. No one in a family looks alike except twins. And when races intermarry there are even more differences. So we can see a species can change without evolution. The same goes for animals. There are different varities of dogs but they are still the same species. They have not evolved. Dogs produce dogs and cats produce cats. a snake does not produce a giraffe. A bird does not produce an elephant.

A hypothesis doesn't really need evidence. It's just an idea that's put out there, and which is then validated or invalidated by the facts. Creationism has been invalidated, but it's still a hypothesis.

Creationism is only appealing to those who *insist* that there is a creator. Anyone looking at the evidence dispassionately will find no reason whatsoever to bring in the idea of a creator.

Of course...Creation can never be proven, that is if you don't believe the scripture...I mean we will never dig something up that says inscribed in some super-complex mathematical encryption "God is here and he created, B.C. 4000" but there is much that we see in nature that we could say, if the Bible is true we would expect this...like the complexity of DNA, or a natural order to the universe, that follows the natural rudown caused by man's sin.

No. Creationism is a combination of fiction and denial. Nothing more. They have no scientific basis for their beliefs.

it isn't about supporting evidence, a (scientific) hypothesis should be (at least) logically coherent, falsifiable in principle, and not already falsified in practice. creationism never meets all three criteria. it is a religious idea.

I'm not sure it's a matter of evidence, but a hypothesis should make a testable prediction. Creationism makes no testable predictions.
