It was probably a play that started innocently enough that went awfully afoul. It would be a good time to sit him down and tell him about telling the truth, importance of life, and taking responsibility for his own actions.
I am fairly certain, he didn't mean to kill the animal, and he didn't even envision the ending turning up so badly. I wouldn't punish him as if he intentionally did something wrong.
As bad as the things turned out, I would use this as an educational incident, and try to get him to learn from it. As upsetting as it may be to you, showing him that you are upset and acting on it doesn't help him at all.

I don't know. I think that the gerbil may have died and your son didn't know what to do with the body he may have stored it in a bag or something thinking it would disapear by itself. I'd check the gerbil for marks other then from the vacuum to see if he killed it himself, if he did them you should have a stern talk with him. Or if you've thrown it away ask him what happened and how god took it. Possibly get him a new gerbil and watch it to make sure he doesn't do anything to it. Hope this helps.

Nothing you can really do because he told you the truth. Not sure of his age, but he knew it died and it went to be with God. Unfortunetly you had to find that out once you vacuumed it up.

You should ask your son what happened. You should explain that if he killed it by accident that you won't be mad, but that you just want to know what happened. He might of vacuumed it up if he found it dead and didnt want to get into trouble. You should explain to him that lying is bad. But i have to say, he might not be ready to have a pet if that is how he reacted to it dying. Also, this might sound upsetting, but if your son killed it on purpose you should take him to speak to someone, torturing animals when you are little is a huge red flag for trouble to come.

That is so gross... but Maybe the lil thing got loose when he was playing w/ it. They will hide anywhere... even in vacuum cleaners. You can ask your son if he got loose when playing with him. I wouldn't tell him that you found him unless he is old enough to handle the truth.
