I work as a student assistant in a lab. I hate my job because I believe that my supervisors micromanage. This has increased recently as a few errors have been blamed on the student assistants. I hate the job but everyone I work with are very nice people. How do I quit?

My best advice to young people starting out in the workforce is to accept that, in the workplace, things are rarely the way you think they ought to be. You should look at the assets and liabilities of the situation and examine your priorities. In other words, do you need the money from this job?

Work, plain and simple, is an exchange of time for money. Your employer gets to dictate how you spend your time.

If you don't need the money or the experience (for school), then FIND ANOTHER JOB FIRST and then resign with two weeks notice. Thank your boss for the opportunity and move forward.

Micromanagement is a common reason people leave jobs. No one likes it. It is not effective. It brings down morale and productivity. It shows that managers either don't trust their employees or have not sufficiently trained them.

Find another job and then give notice. You don't need to give a reason unless you want to. Common practice is to give 2 weeks notice but you can give more notice if you want to and are able to.

Micromanagement has nothing to do with accountability. That sounds like someone who doesn't understand management or is one of those mediocre managers. That is not accountability. BS. Communication is the way to go.
If you hire great people who understand what you expect of them then you shouldn't have to micromanage. It's a waste of a manager's time.

Seasoned makes a great point based in reality. He's right.

It's why I'm a democrat now. That is why the Republicans have lost me ultimately. Because a business should not exist solely to make a profit but alas that's what happened with the boomers in charge. It's unfortunate really. They have done a lot of damage.
