hes asleep on my lap right now

Just treat him well and give him time to get used to you. When he snuggles up to you (in your lap, in bed, etc.) and starts purring, that's when you can tell he's happy that you're his human. Kittens are generally little love bugs as long as they're treated kindly! :-)
EDIT: Awwwww ... if he's sleeping on your lap that means he already likes you because he trusts you enough to go to sleep when you're around! Take good care of the little guy; it looks like you've got a furry friend for life. >^..^<

You said that he is asleep on your lap? That would mean he likes you silly.
If he purrs (strange sound if you've never heard a purr before.. it can be quite an audible vibration sound), knead you (massages you with his front paws, claws may extend but no scratching), follow you around, talks to you, rubs up against you, sleeps on you, then you know he loves you.

You don't own a cat a cat owns you. so while it's a kitten show it as much love as you can and when it's time for it to start going out then you'll know, because he'll come back.

He'l love you, trust me, he needs to get used to his new home and everything around him so he'l be a bit scared to begin with, he'll be cuddling up to you in no time.

it will take time for him to get to know u but u will be able to tell when he is comphortible around you...for instance if he lays on your lap carelessly

because he just met you so it will take some time for him to like you try giving it some space but play with and and pet it ..to show it that you care for it and you love it.

if he's aloveing little kitty you should know it by now but if not then he may never be cats have very differnt persinalitys i have 10 cats and each one is very differnt.

If you feed him and don't beat him then he'll like you.
