You should never give away cats..people do mean things.
Always charge a small fee and insure that your kitties (and other animals) are going to a legitimate place. You don't want them to end up as Pit Bull training bait or lab rat material.

Check with your local humane society, or pound, for how much the cats there cost to adopt. And if your not willing to put a little bit of money into getting a cat, you probably won't put much effort into keeping a cat. Think about it hard before you commit to having a cat. Although cats are easier to take care of than, say dogs; it is still a big responsibility.
