You are right: Faith alone counts for nothing. It must be put into practice. The only mention of "faith alone" in scripture (James 2:24) says, "You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone."
Jesus taught that the requirements for salvation include baptism (Mark 16:16; John 3:5), believing Christ and putting faith in him (e.g., Luke 7:50, 8:12), self-renunciation (e.g., Matt 5:3, 10), repentance (Matt 3:2; 4:17; 18:8-9; Mark 9:42-48), obedience to God, doing what is right and just (e.g., Luke 10:25-28; John 12:50), adopting the humility of a child (Matt 18:3-4; 19:14), eating the bread of life (John 6:51, 53-54), and endurance to the end (Matt 10:22, 24:13; Mark 13:13, Luke 21:16-18).
Jesus explained (Matthew 7:21): "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

Bruce

They can't do it without the Holy Spirit..we have so many Christians walking around whining,, who have never let the Holy Spirit into their lives to guide them...they are Christan's in name only....if you didn't receive the Holy Spirit in like manner as the first Gentile received in Acts Chapter 10 then you need to rethink your conversion. Not only do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt you have received it,,,,anyone standing by, knows you received because they will hear you magnify God and speak in tongues....that is what they bible says and that is the way it is still, today...if anyone tells you in a different way,,they are wrong,,,simple as that...read it for yourself....it is for today,,,it is real...and if you have not received his spirit,,,you are none of him...

Well, it does seem to assume that only Born-Again soteriology -- justification by faith alone, in Jesus alone -- is the only correct Christian view. But not all Christians believe this. Catholics don't. I believe Catholic soteriologty takes works into account. Does that mean they're not "real" Christians? They're one of the oldest surviving Christian churches! So, there are more views about salvation than simply justification by faith alone -- even within orthodox Christianity.

Yes that is a terrible problem for all Christians.
The problem is that living to the standards set forth in the bible is impossible.
You have to understand that it was created that way to give reason to random events that cause harm to people.
If it weren't for laws against Homosexuality, for instance, people like Robertson wouldn't know who to blame when hurricanes come along.

You are not alone. I could never figure it out either. I think one has to be religious in order to deceive oneself in such a manner.
