I want to shed about 15 pounds before the holidays. If I walk every day for the time mentioned above, can I lose some weight?

It wont hurt. Anything which increases your metabolism and heart rate will help. Try mixing up the pace, say fast walking between every 3 and 4th light pole for instance, then slow walk for a bit, then a faster burst. This can kick in extra for your metabolism. Remember the most basic principle of losing weight is that you have to burn off more calories than you are eating. Good luck :-)

At a normal pace, I don't think you'll lose 15 lbs by the holidays, but you will have lost some weight, and inches. You can't lose weight by exercise alone, you'll need to watch what you're eating(you can't go home and eat a box of donuts, walk for an hour a day at normal pace and expect to lose weight).

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

Yes. Depending on how much you weigh, you will most likely burn about 300 calories per hour, walking at a normal pace. If you walk at 3.2 mph, you will probably burn about 400 per hour.

To lose 1 pound of fat, you must eliminate 3500 calories from your required intake. If you burn 300 calories per day more than what you consume in food calories, then you will lose one pound in about 1.5 weeks.

Losing one pound of fat usually means that you will lose additional weight too, in the form of water and a little muscle.

In the first week of losing weight, you tend to shed a little extra water, so essentially, in the 7 weeks before xmas, you could probably lose 10 pounds in fat and a little more in water, etc.

The rule of thumb is that you really shouldn't be losing more than 2 pounds per week...otherwise you have a high risk of putting it back on rapidly.

So, in 7 weeks, losing 14 pounds by walking an hour a day is both possible and reasonable....even without dieting, as long as you are burning more calories than you are consuming.

The key thing is your diet. The first thing in any weight lose program is to change/modify your lifestyle. A hour a day probably wont let you hit your goal of -15 lbs. You need much more exercise and harder, plus you need weights too

I would do it slightly faster than a normal pace - a brisk walk bordering a jog. This will increase your heart rate and allow you to burn more calories.

I might even suggest doing the elliptical? You burn more calories on the elliptical than you do walking! I'm addicted to it!

some... yes 15lbs... doubtful.

it depends on where you are at now, but walking an hour should just be a lead in to some more serious exercises, espically if you want to get serious about losing weight.

That all depends on how many KJ you eat everyday...

Walking doesnt burn that much engery, so the only way to lose 15lb by the holiday, is if you ate close to nothing (only fruits and veggies).

absolutely....as long as you're watching your fat and calorie intake, you should be able to drop a few pounds. And don't starve yourself. It lowers your metabolism. Don't get stuck on numbers though. Just do it to feel good and be healthy. Diets and exercise are a lifestyle, not a one-time quick fix.

Good luck!
