The one question that will undoubtedly need to be asked is, "If you were to die today, are you 100% sure that you'd go to heaven?" A lot of people don't realize that, yes, they can know for sure and that it's not just by living a life of good works. I had a pastor who always said, "If you're only 99% sure, then you're 100% lost."
Of course, you can't really open with that question if talking to a stranger. We usually start by finding out if the person has a church home and offering him/her an invitation to visit our church. Be polite, sensitive and respectful of their time. Some people will appreciate the opportunity to ask questions and learn a little more; others won't. If the person is willing to talk, find out what issues the he/she may be struggling with and show how God's Word is relevant in helping him/her to endure or overcome that trial. Sharing your own personal testimony when the time is right can also be meaningful, but at the mall people aren't likely to allow you to have that much time. You can always make arrangements to meet with them on another day.
Also, when people see a large book that looks like a Bible they try to avoid it because they have their "religious people" stereotypes in mind. Carry a small, New Testament and use it when it comes time to point out certain scriptures.
Don't let these other people who have answered discourage you. You have to talk to a lot of people to find the one that is receptive and truly searching for answers. Just continue to serve God with a pure heart and honest motives. People like those represented here won't understand; they will reject, insult and make fun of you, but you are doing what God has commanded all Christians to do and are laying up rewards in heaven. If just one person comes to know Christ through your unwavering efforts, then withstanding the ridicule will be worth it.
"Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution." --2 Tim. 3:12
May God richly bless your efforts.

Ever heard the expression actions speak louder than words? It applies to witnessing for Christ as well. I can say I'm a Christian every day of my life. How would I look to a non-believer if I was outside smoking a cigarette? The Bible says that our bodies are God's temple. Do you think He'd want smoke in His temple? What if I slept around or made out with my wife at the mall? The non-beliver would think, "Well he must not be that much of a Christian." or "If a Christian can do that then there's no reason for me to change." As someone else stated, you have to live by example. When the people approach you or you approach them with the fliers simply be curtious, say hello, how's their day, and then explain what is on the flier and what it's for. And a word of advice. Don't just say "We're having an event at the church." Tell them something like "We're going to be at the church eating breakfast together (get donuts or something) having a little fun (maybe have some boardgames to do) and worshiping Jesus (that's where your witnessing just occurred). You don't have to force Jesus down their throats. Simply hearing the name of Jesus is enough to convict. Either a) they will choose to accept the invitation where at church they will get to hear the Gospel b) they will simply reject your flier and walk on c) they might talk to you about Jesus either yeah or nay sayers. Either way if that occurs it will give you an opportunity to say what you believe. The question is if someone did that would you be ready to witness to him/her?

What you want to do is probably just going to turn people away. Evangelizing is done from a podium where people choose to stop and listen, or it is done one on one in a relationship situation. Otherwise the others are right, you invest yourself in people's lives on a personal level and wait for the right opportunity to witness verbally. Handing out pamphlets is fine, but don't be a nuisance. There was a time when this sort of witnessing worked, but now people are in a hurry and have too much on their mind to stop and listen to you. They see you as someone to avoid. If you'll look at Jesus' life of witnessing, He did it to the crowds (podium style) or one on one (woman at the well). It's still the best way.

I have to admit, I don't like being evangelized to, and when people give me religious pamphlets, I discreetly throw them away unread--because I already follow my religion and am not at all interested in joining another.
I would recommend that, instead of walking up to people and asking if they would like to know Jesus--your group should sing hymns. You will win over a lot more people, I think, with well-sung music than with preaching.
If you do a Christian singing group, you can have an information table close by with your literature on the table and people available to talk to interested shoppers who come up to your table and ask for information. You can also put up a sign advertising your group.
If you do this, please sing "Our God Is an Awesome God" by Rich Mullins. If that doesn't bring them in, I don't know what will. It is a wonderful song. :)

The best way to evangelize is by your actions, not pestering people in a mall. If people see that you are a happy fulfilled person that is well liked because of your kind and generous soul, then they will be drawn to you, and emulate you. Spread the word by being Christ-like.
Christ would not be in front of Sears handing out fish and loaf leaflets.

You will get asked to leave. Most malls are private property, and you'll be trespassing.
What's on the fliers? Can the fliers speak for themselves without you evangelizing?
There's a big difference between "we're having a 'faith in film' movie next Friday, where we'll watch a movie, and then afterward, we'll talk about the theological messages of the movie, and you're invited to come watch the movie with us," compared to . . . "you're going to hell if you don't change your ways."
(We handed out about 175 fliers Halloween promoting our faith in film night, Nov. 16.)
Godspeed.

that is a nice thing to do dude! Congrats! But when i decided that i am going to evangelize the people going by on the street, with my group of children, i told them that the best way of evangelizing is not passing flyers, because would watch it? Not singing or dancing agressively in the public, but by telling your honest experience that you had with GOD! That is the most effective way of evangelizing people. Courage!!! :)

Before you do that, go to the ACLJ (not the ACLU) site. People in the mall will tell you that you are breaking the law by preaching in public. That site has the legal info to prove that you are not, so when security shows up and tries to make you leave, you can prove that you are not breaking any laws.

Before you go intruding on people lives in public maybe you should work on being somone people should listen to. You couldnt make it through a paragraph without contradicting yourself horribly. My advice is dont do anything, You'll just set your cause back.

Why don't you mind your own business....try volunteering at a homeless shelter, serving food at the local soup kitchen, raising money for that poor family with no money for Christmas, go volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
Do something that will do some good. Pushing your face into someone else's business at a mall somewhere is not accomplishing anything.
Be a good christian - go practice charity somewhere.
