Ask your doctor for a referral. Or see if there is a Mental Health Association in your county. Picking someone out of the Yellow Pages is not a great idea - it's too difficult to find a good therapist as it is, and that's just "hit or miss". Don't give up if the first person you see doesn't help or you don't feel listened to - keep trying. Just like plumbers or mechanics or anything else - some are more skilled than others.
Good luck.

The Yellow Pages should be a last resort, because the selection is just too broad.
Try asking your doctor, since presumably he or she knows you, and might be able to direct you to a therapist that would suit your specific needs.
Another thing you might try, is asking someone you know and trust if they know of a licensed therapist you could try out. Many people these days either see a therapist or have seen one in the past, so there may be a lot of networking opportunities.
The key in selecting a therapist is YOU--your specific personality and needs. That's why a reference or referral is probably a much better idea than taking a shot in the dark with the Yellow Pages.

I found my therapist through the yellow pages. Location close to my work was important in choosing a therapist so that I could go on the lunch hours, and I ended up finding a therapist located right in the building where I work. Some say you should shop around to find the right one for you or get a doctor's referral. I say do what is most convenient or important to you. If it doesn't work out with the one you choose, just find another.

Ask your friends, these days most everyone is going to a therapist of some sort or another. There is such a huge difference between a OK therapist and a great one. Taking paxil may be OK for a couple of weeks however it is like putting a band aid on a wound that really needs stitches.

There's a white box up in the right corner of the screen that has the word "search" next to it. Inside the box, type in "Therapy", and the "city" that you live in. Press enter. Good luck.

You should ask your doctor and they will point you in the right direction.
Or you can call your health insurance and have them give you a list of qualified providers near you.

it is difficult to find a good therapist/pychologist. If your doctor wants you on meds for anxiety.. definantly ask your doctor for a referral... it is very helpful to have a doctor and psychologist who work together well, their combined findings and observations definantly help in making you feel the best you can.
