Interesting... but a little vague. I'll assume you mean spiritual enlightenment vs knowledgeable of facts....

The simplicity of the line between self-deception and not lies in our ability to recognize and in our willingness to discriminate honestly between what is truth and what is false.

I think that our being able to tell when we are self-deceived is only possible if we are willing to thoroughly question our core beliefs and measure their value honestly, since without attention paid to careful scrutiny of how we know and feel what we know and feel, and to how we know what is true vs false, allows for the possibility of self-deception and misinformation to run completely free and wild at their own will.

Summing up:

We CAN find the means to test ourselves and, YES, I think we can tell when we've gone overboard. The line between knowing and not knowing is drawn at truth and we can verify our understanding of truth only by doggedly questioning and challenging it.

you're able to alter into Self conscious, One strives to be Enlightened. The meaning of existence is 40 two, it is self information. it is reality. Enlightened is once you already know that the meaning is senseless, the existence is the actuality. What one does with their existence is how conscious and Enlightened one has and is turning out to be to be. Then wipe the sand away, and commence over.

Ummm....Honestly?

There is no difference. It's all really part of the same thing, and all really point of view.

I could be enlightened, you'd say I was self-deluded.

It's all really just labels, made up words to tag into a concept, with only spiel check being something yew cane place you're trust in.

I am enlightened enough to recognize my self-deception and appreciate the line, when I choose to cross it. ;)

the only way to tell is if you have "all the answers" already, otherwise where would your standard of legitimate and factual enlightenment come from?
