The bible is full of contradictions, who determines what to follow and what not to follow? If it is such a good book of word, then verily all word should be taken as it is and not left up to interpratation. But this is not so, some words/versus are taken literally, some words/versus are taken symbolically... all in the same of chapter. If everyone followed word for word what is in the book, there would be homosexual slaughterings taking place in the streets outside the window.
Leviticus 20:13: "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them. "
Yet society says that we don't do these things, should we start killing the wicked in the name of a book? I thought that idol worship was considered a sin. it seems contradictory even from the bible's standpoint then to idolize an item like the bible itself, like jesus or like god.
I think the whole idea presented to us in the bible is misunderstood from the original intent of the human AUTHORS. AUTHORS like you or I... admit that everyone here would call me crazy if I release the Bible 2, saying that more was revealed to me through divine intervention... what proof do I have to this? the truth in what I say? but 2000 years from now people would say that I was somehow divinely influenced and was persocuted by the wicked and detestable? yet some people would disagree wholeheartedly with what I have said...
And of course there will be words like "follow only the word of the lord" (like words in the bible). Christianity is a path, the bible (word of jesus) is the guide to lead down that path, and heaven is the goal. Stray from the path but a little, and you will overshoot (or undershoot for those of hierarchy-minded influence) the objective. And yes, I think that the bible can be used as a tool in its own rite and context... the lessons taken quite non-literally actually make a lot of sense. (commandment: do not idol-worship / akin to saying: do not look for answers in outside things) but some of the lessons gleened are archaic and do not promote growth.
to answer the question rightly, when you base your decisions* in life on something outside of yourself, you leave YOUR decision to SOMEONE or something* ELSE. You will always use that outside source as a tool to justify the means to your end. Most people that don't agree with Gay marriage are looking for answers from something else (the bible, or someone else's opinion, usually based on the bible or something else akin to that). When most people that agree with gay marriage use themselves as reference (mind). This is not to say that those that agree are gay, but those that agree understand the choices that they themselves make and that no one person has a right to tell another what choice to make, nay they cannot make the choice for someone else.

Sometimes, letting go seems like the easiest thing to do. But think about this: you've invested so much of your time and energy into another person; you've made a solemn promise; and you still know there's love, even if it's hiding underneath the surface. This website will show you how to save a marriage and avoid divorce, even if you're the only one trying https://tr.im/VtHvK

The Bible is the basis for our moral beliefs. Did you get your ideas for whatever you believe in out of thin air, or do you base them on something?
A belief system has to have some sort of reference point, and Christians use the Bible for that purpose.

God's wisdom is in the bible, so in order to speak of what God wants we must use the bible. A man shall reap what he sows. So if a man is gay he will be punished for it either trapped in it or by pain. What is the logical reason how do know right from wrong unless God gives it to us. Do we know everything, No! But the one who knows everything may give us knowledge to understand.

Well its funny that most churches in America strike down the notion of gay marriage when half of the ones in the church are gay themselves. Contradition!!!
The bible has always been a way for people to justify what they want to believe.

Its not a defense, it is the instruction book as to how we/they are to live our lives. Who some one choses to live with is up to them, but when some want to change the meaning of the word marriage to mean what ever is fad at that time, then people stand up against that.

Yeah it is actually the only reference. Marriage has its origins in religion, to separate the two is not being true to the basis for the act in the first place.
Thanks for a great question.

I use the bible to test everything because I want the truth and not what my sinful fallen nature tells me. Yes, I can think for myself and I can do whatever self wants if I want to destroy myself. Self is me without God and I personally would not want to trust that. Self will always want what satifies me without caring about the consequences later. I know God is smarter than I am since He is the one who created me. I would much rather learn to think like He does.

I do think for myself and came to the conclusion that living according to Torah is much healthier and I can have children. Living any-old-way I can imagine will cause STD's and last I knew gays cannot have child. Thus removing that gene from the gene pool. Selah.

People who want to decide for themselves what is right and what is evil play God. We are free to do that but we often choose wrongly. We are not free to do whatever we want that is not freedom but licence. Freedom has limits and are set up by Gods wisdom and once we step outside of that wisdom we can become very unhappy. It is the abuse of freedom that gets us in trouble
