not include that group. Clearly the politicians of the revolutionary war times considered some people property and some people men. All men created equal, does not include all ethnic groups now does it? Clearly it took men, not God, but men a hundred years later to see the injustice and fight so that ALL men are created equal. YOur creator arguement falls apart.

It was a tough question at the time. Slavary was an accepted practice in his time so Jefferson grew up with the economics of it. Now the dilemma is if you discover that it is wrong, how do you undo it. He knew that just releasing slaves en masse would not help society or the slaves (they grew up accepting certain things.) He advocated gradual emancipation. As a slave developed skills to adjust to society, they would be freed. He did free many of his slaves during his lifetime and emancipated them all at his death. How do we undo a societal wrong that was created over a hundred years ago. Many may see him as a hypocrit and he felt the same toward himself, but he did the best he could under the conditions that existed. Don't forget that slavary was a strong institution in VA.

And what if those slaves had not been crying out to God in the Cotton Fields? And what if Lincoln would not have been touched by the Holy spirit to let the slaves go? What then?
We would still have slavery today. Now we make people slaves of Materialism. Is that any better?

Just because all men are created equal doesn't mean they are treated equally. It's a shame that mankind took thousands of years to abolish slavery, but slavery was a manmade institution.

Your argument adds nothing to the debate over the existence of God.

your point is because someone said all men are created equal and didn't have the common sense or understanding of what that meant to not have slaves....God doesn't exist?

WRONG

He was far sighted enough to lay the groundwork for abolishing slavery, but he also knew the time was not right to do it during his lifetime. There would have been revolts.
