I've created a website that answers this very question. Feel free to visit at http://www.allaboutmormons.com .
There are many who hate the Mormons and spread lies, distortions, and conspiracy theories about us. Others think they understand Mormon doctrine because of "what they've heard," but are actually misinformed.
1. We are Christians.
2. We do consider Christ to be the divine Son of God.
3. We do not worship Joseph Smith.
4. We do not practice polygamy.
5. We are not racist. (My wife is black for heaven's sake!)
6. We do believe in the Bible.
7. We do not all live in Utah. Most of us do not live in the United States.
8. We do not believe we can grow to be greater than God.
9. We are not simpletons; many of us have advanced degrees and hold positions of prominence in academia and the community.
10. We are not opposed to science.
11. We are not the same thing as the Amish.
12. The word "Mormon" has the correct number of m's. There are two. People who make this joke are never as funny as they think they are.

Here are the 13 basic tenants of our faith.
Most of the other people who left comments have taken some random quote out of context by someone who may or may not have been a leader and then twisted it.
There are a fair number of people who feel threatened by Mormons because of their active missionary effort. Check out the website.
www.mormon.com
and
www.lds.com
The first web site is more basic and a good place to start. Also, if you want to there, you can request a free copy of The Book of Mormon. 2 Missionaries can drop it off, explain it a bit to you, and answer any questions that you may have.

1. We believe in the Godhead as defined in the bible not in the nicean creed made by men.
2. We don't believe God had sex with Mary to conceive Jesus. That is a lie. We believe in the virgin birth.
3. We believe Joseph Smith translated the works of ancient peoples in the americas found at Hill Cumorah, it did not come from heaven.

Without spending a lot of time giving you a detailed answer. Go to lds.org or mormon.org for the official church information. Otherwise, ask your local missionaries to fill you in. There is a publication known as the Encyclopedia of Mormonism available that is pretty good.

It was founded by the "prophet" Joseph Smith who supposedly found biblical tablets which were brought down from heaven. He then "translated" these tablets into the Books of Mormon and started the religion (cult) of Mormonism.

1. They believe God was a man before He became God.
2. That God had sexual relations with Mary to conceive Jesus.
Here are just two of the false teaching they tell you. My advice read the bible. God has always exisited.
" In the beginning God"
Jesus was born of a virgin birth,
" And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?"
