I know a lot of web sites, I want some tried and true recipes. My kids (now grown) want new pies and sides. I will be making a turkey and a spicy ham.

Something my grandmother makes every Thanksgiving that I've never seen anywhere else is Oyster casserole... I know it may not sound good, but I have to say it's the main reason I go to the family holiday. She showed me once how to make it and it was very simple. she bought a jar of oysters, a box of saltine crackers, and milk... you crumble the saltine crackers and layer at the the bottom of a casserole dish, place the oysters over top and repeat in as many layers that your dish can allow. Lastly, you gently pour the milk over the whole dish and let the crackers soak it all in. Bake it in the oven until it looks golden brown, and serve to enjoy!!!!

This is a family favorite side dish that we can't seem to live without. It goes so well with the crescent rolls.

Shoe Peg Corn Casserole

1 can French style green beans, drained
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 small chopped onion
1 can shoe peg corn, drained
1 cup grated medium or mild cheddar cheese
8 oz. sour cream
1 stick melted margarine
1 roll Ritz crackers, crushed
Mix all ingredients, except crackers and margarine, and pour into a shallow 2 qt. casserole. Sprinkle crackers over mixture. Pour melted margarine over crackers. Bake at 400 for 45 minutes.

This is very Christmas-y...

Frozen Cherry Salad

1 pkg ( 8 oz) cream cheese, softened
1 carton ( 8 oz) Cool Whip
1 can cherry pie filling
2 cans ( 11 oz each) mandarin oranges, drained
Maraschino cherries and orange wedges for garnish

Combine cream cheese and whipped topping. Stir in pie filling. Set aside 1/4 oranges for garnish. Fold remaining oranges into cream cheese mixture.

Transfer to a loaf pan. Cover and freeze overnight. Remove from freezer 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with reserved oranges and maraschino cherries.

This makes a pretty Christmas treat, but we enjoy it throughout the year too.

I have always gotten major compliments for my deviled eggs. What I add to taste are:
Mayo, miracle whip, yellow mustard, raw onion (put the onion in blender with a little water, then drain water out), and crisp bacon. Paprika on top with a slice of green or black olive.

Will depend on on the context really. Which is better as a snack - fresh fruit personally. It's tastier and gives you that little of sweetness. Which can be better as a snack if you are trying hard to minimize back on sugar and lose weight vegetables
