What are the goals that we need to reach when we can say that man no longer is having any effect on the climate?

If co2 gets back to 200ppm, do we then say that our work is done, man no longer has any effect on the climate?

What's the goal?

Global warming will never stop, it will never be cured, we will never find a solution, even if the ice caps cover New Your City once again.

Global warming is a money gravy train. Why would anybody want to find a solution to that?

1. When the **** doesn't hit the fan.
Jello is right in a way. Yes there currently is a business to climate change, but that is the same with the business of polluting us. Also he is right about not being able to stop it, but he doesn't know it. There is a lag time between carbon increases and temperature increases followed by a dramatic temperature crash (ice-age). But that has been the climate cycle of our current temperate planet (650,000yrs). The problem comes in the form of, we are putting carbon out from millions of years ago when the planet was warmer and had a higher concentration of Co2 in the atmosphere. We as humans had not evolved at that time, in a warm wet one. Problems? Who knows. Also it could slam us into a F'd up Ice-age. Or maybe nothing at all but higher sea levels, stronger storms causing flooding until we all move to higher ground. Oh don't forget more alligators and mosquitoes too.
2.We need to become carbon neutral. It may be to late, it maybe not. 50/50 gamble on the future of the human race.
3. We will always have the affluent and elite and some will never reduce their carbon footprint.

The work is never done my friend. The goal isn't to stop global warming but to expand gov't control and "enhance science and research" (taken from link below).

The problem with global warming (like other social issues) is that it requires zillions of dollars to remedy.

Would the gov't want to give up higher taxes and fines? It a source of revenue for the gov't.

Policy making is hard to live with. It's easy to put in place, hard to reverse.

Maybe when the natural cycle of the earth returns to cooler temperatures? But then I guess man was causing the pending ice age just a few decades ago.

When we go back into a cooling period again. No one really knows. The last cooling period lasted almost 40 years. We've been in this warming period for about 20 years so far.

I hope it's not for a while cuz I like it warm. ☺

This is akin to asking liberal policymakers, "How much is enough?"

You'll never get an answer - these programs, once implemented will be with us in perpetuity.

Ever see a sunset on new taxes (vs tax cuts)?

It will never be known since global warming is natural.

Getting CO2 back to 200-something would be nice. But it's not remotely practical.

Here's a practical plan to keep it below 500 or so. At that point we can cope with the remaining warming.

We're not going to stop it totally. But we can reduce it enough to cope.

When we figure out a way to turn off the sun.

But then we have a different problem.
