Anything would help. I'm just starting out. Know where I can get any backdrops and the such?

CodemanC is correct in telling you AlienBees. Now they might cost a bit more than you had intended to spend, but they are backed by superior service right here in the US. (That is if YOU are in the US) The manufacturer, Paul C. Buff is outstanding and I own six of his lights; four I bought over 20 years ago and they still service them. Once I bought some cheap lights but when they broke there was nowhere to repair them. In the long run, the Bees are your best buy and you can start with one and an umbrella and work your way up .

There are DIY sites etc that can keep things on the cheap. I love my Alien Bees. I would suggest looking at http://www.strobist.com for a great blog on lighting, and he prefers light cheap setups. The concets work with standard studio strobes as well.

His latest tip was daylight balanced florescent fixtures from Home stores for under fifty bucks.

For around $150-200 you can get a 3 light set from BH Photo or Adorama.

Someone was kind enough to share with me this link about setting up studio photography lighting yourself. So, I will "pay it forward" to you.
