You should always make judgements about other people, we all do, it is the way in which it is done, never generalize and give every person an equal chance to be considered good in your eyes (like not holding them accountable for things they have no control over like gender, race etc).

if people are not helping you to have a productive life , if they are a hindrance to you ...
then keep them at a distance
you dont have to shun them as such
just put a distance between you
I am not sure why you would see that as bigoted unless the people you are speaking of are ALL of a certain sect of people
in which case yes it would be bigoted if that is the only reason you are shunning them

Nope. People like to overreact and get their little feelings all offended over silly things like the fact that you disagree with someone's lifestyle. The notion these days is that, if you disagree with something it automatically means that you hate the person who is doing that thing and that you are an awful person for "not supporting them". I think it's ridiculous and it's something I have been dealing with alot lately.
For example: I disagree with homosexuality. I don't think it's right. Evidently it makes me evil in the minds of many because I didn't applaud one of my friends for deciding to seek out a lesbian relationship after her boyfriend left her. Do I treat gay people like crap when I meet them? No, I am just as polite to them as I am to everyone else. Do I think other people should treat them like crap? No again. But I also don't seek out friendships with gay people. I wouldn't want my kids around them - they are very young and I don't want them exposed to that lifestyle right now. This is my personal choice and I don't think it makes me hateful or a bigot. I'm not "shunning" these folks because I hate them! We are all free to associate with whomever we choose.
If you take any kind of moral stand, and decide not to associate with those whose lifestyle you disagree with (and this can be done without treating those people badly too!!), you WILL be labeled as a bigot, self-righteous, holier-than-thou, a hater, intolerant, etc. etc. So be prepared. It gets real old after a while....be prepared to hang in there for the long haul.

Sure. You can shun bigots, mean people, rude people, and racists.
Of course, you actually need to know them as an individual before you can shun them for being part of that group.

yes. if you shun people based on their individual qualities. like if one particular person is an energy vampire, you can decide to avoid them for your own good.
but if you shun someone because they a member of a group, whether that's based on their race, religion, sexual orientation, or anything, then that is bigoted. if you're shunning TYPES of people, then yes, that is prejudice.

People label each other no matter what.

Why are you worried about labels? Why do you fear the opinion of people you are attempting to eschew from your life?
