Reason i ask a woman held the door open for me when i was like 30 ft away yesterday causing me to have to rush. When i did not break into a sprint she shot me a nasty look. Never mind the employees upset about heat streaming out on a freezing morning. I say if you are further than 7 ft, the only right thing to do is let the door fall and you can open it yourself.

Normally, if they are within 25 ft, I'll wait, unless it's a person with small kids or someone with a cane- for them I'd wait longer. And to give a dirty look while doing a good deed kind of negates the whole deal, so she needs a chill pill.

Yeah you have to judge it. I go by "pause." If i'm going to have to wait 10 seconds or more for the person to come (which is usually at least 15 away), I go in. If the person is close enough where there is a breif pause between me holding and opening the door for them and them coming in, then I"ll hold it.

I agree with you: if you are going to hold the door open then wait for that person to get there. They shouldn't have to feel rushed. If they are too far away, simply let it close.
