I remember coming upon a Sufi Bible many moons ago, and I just was so into what was written, I probably forgot to eat.

I will share some Rumi quotes - he is a sufi mystic of 1207-1273 from Afghaninstan.

"Don't grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form."

"Let the beauty of what you love be what you do."

"This is love; to fly toward a secret sky, to cuase a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step forward without feet."

Rumi
I love Rumi so.

I trust this helps you a little. I am in awe of your mother reading Sufi, I enjoyed it.

Peace in the heart

Sufism is the spiritual side of Islam. Its the joining of the law and the soul to attain a higher stage of worship that normal. Its not a sect and some reject Sufism altogether. Its has several names such a Tasawwuf, Ishan etc. It also has several definitions as well, some say its an inward journey to God/Allah. The best works to read are anything by Imam Ghazali or Al-Ghazali the one I would recommend is the faith and practice of Al-Ghazali translated by W.m Watt.

The various groups have spiritual orders as well who take allegiance to a particular scholar and then are guided spiritually by that scholar. This can involve extra prayers, supplications and the like.

Your short explanation of Sufism might be close to the truth. I don't know a lot about Sufism.

But certainly Prophet Mohammad SAW didn't teach Sufism. It was devised by mystic religious people. There are five or six different groups know in Islam. Each one teaches different ways of praying and glorifying God to get His attention and be close to Him.

Most Sunni Muslims are against sufism. Because Sufis practice their rituals by being away from society like religious men in Christian Monastries did. Islam emphasizes staying in society, doing every thing than evey one does for living, taking care of wife, children, family members, friends and worshipping God as well. In short they say one must fullfil
rights of Allah and rights of people every day living amongst them and not going away from society living a aloof life.
