As a PTA, do you have to have 501c3 status in order to allow doners to use your EIN number to write off their donations at tax time?

answerer #1, you're right. I don't know why I didn't think to check the pta site before, but:
Can a PTA give out its tax ID# to people who make donations?

Yes. If the PTA is soliciting donations or sponsorship from vendors, they should be supplying their tax ID # when asked so that the vendor has documentation of the PTA tax exempt status and, therefore can legitimately deduct the donation.

It's been years since I ran both school & Council PTA's but I don't believe you need this. Check with your council.

They wouldn't use your EIN in any case. If they donate, you need to give them a receipt though.
