The Roman Empire collapsed under its own weight, with a push from its barbarian neighbors. The Empire had run on conquest and expansion, but eventually expanded beyond the point where it could effectively administer its territories. The Romans themselves, once strong warriors, were seduced by the pleasures of civilization. Faced with a huge empire to manage, they came to rely increasingly on barbarian mercenaries to man their armies. Some of these same barbarians helped bring down the Empire.
Coincidence? Coinciding with what? If you mean a mere random occurrence, no. It was a natural process of growth and decay.
