a guy that i have known for a long time, turned up at work to find me as he had lost my number. to cut a long story short, he didn't get to see me. when he found my number, he called me to say that he had wanted to spend the night with me, and that night he wanted to give me everything, and for me to give everything to him?

Why would he go to the trouble to come to your work, then get your phone number?
Has he always wanted to sleep with you?
Do you know if he has liked you for a long time?
Well, if it's reciprocal, why not phone him back to find out?
If he usually is the quiet type, then he probably decided that it was time that he made you aware of his feelings.
Well, the best is not to sit there and ask us, but to meet him and talk about it thoroughly, like:
What did you want to tell me?
What do you mean by everything?
Why did you look for me?
How do you feel about me?
How long have you been feeling like this?
What do you want to do now?

doesn't sound good to me...why is he rushing things - these things should really take time and be enoyed and intimacy is best when it grows over time...I would tell him to wait and if he does then he may be worth it...if not -lose him
