there are many antidepressants and some of the newer generation medications do a wonderful job, and no they don't all make you feel "numb". (in fact few of them do) But, medication is only half the answer to depression, they help to make you think more clearly, but you must also use that clearer thought to deal with the issues that caused the depression in therapy. I recommend you see a psychiatrist, they are medical doctors that specialize in mental health issues and they know the drugs best, they can also refer you to therapists that can best help you with your issues.
Good luck to you.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.
Depression Free Method?

You have to find the right anti-depressant for you. Several years ago after my Mother died I was put on Zoloft. I could tell a difference in about 2.5 weeks. It didn't make me feel numb. I just didn't cry all the time. After being on Zoloft for a while a different doctor put me on Wellbutrin. It actually worked better for me. I had been off of all anti-depressants for almost 4 years when my Dad died suddenly. I was put on Paxil CR. It has done absolutely nothing for me. I took it for over 2.5 months and no improvement. So I quit taking it. I have to to another doctor to try something else soon.

They don't make you feel "numb". Some of them do have unpleasant side effects, and most people will usually need to try a few different antidepressants before they find one that works for them and has side effects that are tolerable. Talk to your doctor, and don't get discouraged if the first antidepressant you try isn't effective.

Getting the RIGHT meds won't make you feel that way. I take Cymbalta and within the first hour of taking my first pill, I felt 1000 times better. I can't imagine life without it. I'm a new me - wouldn't trade it for anything!

Yes they do work, but you can never stop taking them. Once you stop the symptoms come back stronger. You know when you talk to your doctor he/she is the one that will decide if you need them. Some other treatment could work for you depending on what type of depression you have.
