A LAN is a Local Area Network. Refers to a small network usually within one building or complex.

A MAN is a Metropolitan Area Network. Refers to a large network that covers a single city or other defined geographical area.

A WAN is a Wide Area Network. Refers to a very large network which can cover states, countries, or the entire world (such as the Internet).
